I like the idea, but i'm afraid that may be a bit too political for a football supporter's group? Also, even though public support for same-sex marriage has risen dramatically, it is still controversial enough that it may risk alienating some folks, which we should not do. I'm happy with the supreme court decision, i'm just not sure if it's something that belongs in the supporter's section.
Thoughts?
For anyone for whom this is controversial, let them feel uncomfortable. And if that's too tough, let them give up their SS tix to someone more tolerant. I'm all for the rainbow flag, and for the record, so is NYCFC. As evidenced by this on their facebook page yesterday with #LoveWins.

I don't think its controversial in NY. My dads 83 and said good for them.

That's pretty much my take.

Who really gives a shit..

I'm 28, I work in what most people consider a very "masculine" profession and guess what... no one I work with cares either.

There's so many things in this world that make us unhappy, so if you find something or somebody you love, go for it.

ESPNFC's take on the upcoming derby match:
http://www.espnfc.us/blog/kicking-a...ed-bulls-vs-nycfc-a-true-start-to-mls-rivalry

Some highlights:
When we last checked in on the long and storied rivalry (OK, one game!) between the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC, the boys in blue were so busy shooting themselves in the foot, it was amazing they could walk, let alone kick a ball.

Well, what a difference six weeks makes -- not to mention a fit David Villa, a stable back four, a more balanced midfield and the mouth-watering prospect of a certain bearded Italian maestro and a well-worn English antique bolstering NYCFC's quest for world domination ... or at least a MLS playoff berth.
...
The surest sign that this MLS-orchestrated rivalry is still in its embryonic stage is that none of the NYCFC players reveled in the Red Bulls' recent skid. Can you imagine the comforting words Arsenal's Jack Wilshere would have for Spurs if the Gunners' bitter North London enemies were in the midst of a rough patch?

"There is huge respect between us and the Red Bulls," said Wingert. "We might joke around with them before the game but you won't hear any trash talking."

Stop me if you've heard this one:

An elementary school teacher explains to her class that she is a Red Bulls supporter. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Red Bulls supporters, too.

Not really knowing what a Red Bulls supporter was, but wanting to be like their teacher, hands explode into the air. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Mary has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a Red Bulls fan."

"Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?" "Why I'm proud to be a NYCFC supporter.", boasts the little girl. The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Mary why she is a NYCFC supporter. "Well, My Dad and Mom are NYCFC supporters, and I'm a NYCFC fan, too!"

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron, What would you be then?" A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Mary, "I'd be a Red Bulls supporter."

How the fuck do I like this more times?!?!

Oh for fuck sake -- just cut this clown already.
I don't think that's a reasonable response to that. We as fans are fully entitled to love or hate other teams and that's fine. The players however are almost always going to see other players as respected competitors who'll they play both with and against dozens of times. I'm sure there are any number of players that just don't like each other, but I think on average rival players at least get along.

Not saying you have to like Wingert, but I just don't think the fact that he doesn't happen to hate the New Jersey team is reason to.

Why do you hate our own players so much?

What makes you think I hate anyone on this club? Because I take issue with some of the things they say or do? For the record I was being over the top in my response to his quote -- although it does bother me (see below for my discussion of his quote and my issue with it). It's purely a business decision whether or not Wingert should be on this or any other club's roster -- at least it should be, right Jason Kreis? He has had a very good MLS career, but he is average at best now -- he's clearly lost a step as is demonstrated by him being burned numerous times per match at LB and he's simply not good enough to play CB. At his current salary he should not be back next year. It has nothing to do with like, dislike or hate. But since you think it is nothing more than personal feelings, I will tell you that I have met Wingert numerous times and he seems to think he is God's gift to this football club. I can assure you that he isn't. I am not the only person who has met him who has noticed this.

I don't give a fuck if he likes or dislikes NJRB, but he better get his head in the game and not be "joking around" with the opposition moments before the match. That is the part of his quote I specifically took issue with. Competitors should have/show respect to their opposition, but they don't need to make them feel at home in our stadium.

People need to understand the difference between tolerance and agreeing. You can easily disagree with someone/something and still live your life as you wish. Unless someone is hurting/causing harm to someone, disrespecting someone's privacy, silencing their right to free speech or obstructing their personal property then who gives a F what someone else does that makes them happy. I'm intolerant or "racist" of one type of people...those that F with someone else's right to enjoy a happy, free, law abiding life.

Back to the game though...so like Grant's tweet said (posted in the Pirlo thread) Lamps/Pirlo...Bale/European coaches, etc. are expected to attend this game.

I hope we don't shit the bed tomorrow lol. RB just played so that will either work against them or help them. I fear are "marginal" players may crack under the pressure of a big crowd. It's funny cause it's almost like the RB are this little club & big underdog. That's the way the media and the RB are portraying it. Which is bullshit really. Oh well. I have faith.

I hope they learned their lesson from opening day and we don't have to wait an hour to get through the metal detectors.
