Jack Harrison to Manchester City - Official

He's playing with one of the best in the business David Villa. And is being closely coached by Patrick Vieira. And is friends with Frank Lampard. And has hanged around the "Maestro" Pirlo. What more would you want besides money :moneybag: and glory :trophy:? That may NOT happen if he goes back to Europe.

What happened to Mix, Shay Facey? What happened to Angeliño? Poof... gone... And we will never hear from them again.
Mix is actually playing every week and starting for his club. His club also wants to pick him up permanently. Gone, yes, but I’d hardly call that poof....

Jack's earning potential in England is larger than what it is here in the States. If there's a time to go, it's now. He can always come back, but he will only be a 21 year "prospect" once in his life. Go now, take the money, give it your best shot. If it doesn't work, come back. If it does, you make multiples of what MLS will pay

Ulrich Ulrich already covered Mix. Shay Facey never had the build to make it in the bigger leagues in Europe. Angelino has been consistently starting in the Eredivisie while there on loan, so I also wouldn't say that he had disappeared or anything.

God I watch this and see Patrick talking to Jack and think, yeah, he's gone...

Yeah they had that moment at the very end of the video where PV tells him to "be positive -- life is good" -- and I'm trying to figure out what that means. Is PV saying goodbye, or is the transfer not going the way Jack expected? Hopefully all will be answered soon; I hope if the transfer somehow falls through the club puts out a statement so we're not spending the next week needlessly wondering.

The front office has been terrible communicating the details of player injuries and a stadium progression. No way they're going to say anything related to actual football business.

True. It was more of a pipe dream than anything.

See, though, that argument cuts both ways. What happened to DeAndre Yedlin when he left to go to Europe? Or Christian Pulisic? It seems to be working out alright for them...

The thing is, a player who takes the step up and struggles will always be accused of lack of ability to see that they should have stayed put, but a player who never even tries to play in the bigtime will spend the rest of their career being accused of a lack of ambition, so it's not like by staying here Jack will avoid any questions over his decision-making and his personality. On the other hand, on top of this, if he stays put he will have to grow old telling his grandkids about how he might have had the ability to turn into one of the best wingers in European football but never found out because he was too scared of finding out he wasn't. There are multiple other factors I could mention, like whether he dreams of representing his country but might be held back from selection if England managers don't believe MLS is competitive enough, and so on. Point is, it's not the straight forward "wood through the trees" decision you make out.

Yeah but they went to Dortmund and Tottenham not Championship bound stoke. If the big boys come calling I think he should go for it, but how big a step up is the championship from MLS, especially in the next years. Being in a top league is good but jack deserves to be developed at a strong team when he makes the jump.

Dear God please not Celtic
True dat.

Spent my whole life seeing Celtic snap up our best players for peanuts and I don't want that ugly curse to follow to NYCFC too!

Stoke or Glasgow is an interesting choice of shitholes to move to for someone in New York.

If he goes to the green monster he'll be in and out of the team, playing against worse players than here and end up moving to Stoke in a couple of years anyway.

The only silver lining in that deal would be, as someone mentioned, any cut of a sell on fee, since Ra Sellick have a habit of stealing other teams players for very little, often hardly playing them, then ultimately selling them on for umpteen gazillion pounds a couple of seasons later.

I agree! The thing is he’s British not American they will definitely expect more out of him. There’s nothing worse than riding the bench or even worse never even making the bench and never playing at a so called bigger team. My concept was to “flip the script”, literally and figuratively. Change the game, so more quality younger guys would want to come and play in MLS. To prove that over here you CAN get a chance and over there you just criticized, and that will stunt your growth as a player and a person. I want to see MLS’s quality of talent grow not decrease. Over here he’s good over there he be just average or even subpar unfortunately. I say stay here for now. That’s what I would advise him. To each his own.

I say follow your dreams whatever they maybe. But I'm not his mum or his agent, LOL.

That's true, but it took those guys a few years to get there. Yedlin didn't really play for Tottenham at all and slowly started getting PT at Sunderland on loan there, then played a full season with NewCastle in the Championship before they were promoted. I do think Pulisic is a bad example considering he came up through the youth academies.

But when TonyLikesBologna TonyLikesBologna original point is that Facey, Angelino, and Mix disappeared once going to Europe, I think the Yedlin comparison is a good one. Facey and Angelino are only 2 years removed from playing here and Mix only one year (which you could argue he disappeared here well before he went to Europe, and I know there's a lot more to it than that, but I'll leave that out).

I think the Yedlin comparison is actually a really good one. FWIW, Yedlin was valued at 250k (all nominations in pounds) prior to being sold to Tottenham for 2.6m. He then went on loan to Sunderland and had 25 appearances across all competitions. Then Tottenham sold him to NewCastle for 5.9m after NewCastle had been relegated.

I feel like that is somewhat similar to the path that Jack would have.

There's a huge difference in what is good for MLS versus what is good for Jack.

If you're arguing that Jack would have a better chance to develop here in the US instead of in the Premier League and potentially partially in the Championship, then I don't know what to tell you other than I strongly, strongly disagree with you.

I do personally think another year here could benefit him before making the jump (and part of that may be because I just want him on NYCFC for another year), but to reach his full potential, he needs to be in Europe.

Sure, that is true, and I won't claim to know the playing time situations would be for him at Stoke or whatever other teams may be interested in buying him; because I don't. Jack needs to figure out what does work out best for him. If he can get solid PT at Stoke, that sounds like a great situation for him.
at a so called bigger team.
Lol

Stoke valuation - 174m
NYCFC valuation - 20.7m
