Nycfc V Redbulls Postmatch

Maybe it's because I was right below the Third Rail and across the stadium from the where they put the Energy drink supporters but despite what everyone seems to be saying I couldn't hear them at all from where I was.

I was right below them only heard them in beginning, after they scored second goal and near the end. I did notice lots of beer thrown to lower levels.

I guess the fact that they could foul Villa as much as they wanted helped them execute their strategy.
Villa was using the ol' La Liga Lean quite a bit, where he'd just slowly, gently, lean backward against his marker until he fell down, trying to draw a foul. It worked a couple of times; bought us several free kicks.

Midas, I'm seriously asking, dude. Do you just enjoy being pissed about this stuff?

It's an expansion team built through the expansion draft. You couldn't possibly have expected this team to compete this year.

I'm asking because I tend to think you're pretty funny, and I like you. But I really can't be that negative right now. Don't mistake that for being positive, but the "Kreis Out" stuff is still remarkably misinformed.

I think a big part of the negativity by many is that they know this team could be one of the best with better coaching decisions and just a couple more talented players (that will be coming). It is evident that the team is already looking much better than it was in April. But when Lampard, Pirlo, Iraola, Angelino, and whoever else we sign/cut occur, if NYC is not winning the majority of the games, it will be evident that NYCFC's problem is Kreis and not it being an expansion franchise. Kreis still has my support for now, but it is definitely waning every time he plays Chris Wingert and makes terrible substitutions and has terrible game plans.

Crazy thing is - I think we have 9 games where we've drawn or lost by 1 goal. If the Lampard fiasco didn't happen (and I'm assuming he'd score a few goals in those nine games) there's a decent chance we're sitting in the middle of the play-off hunt right now and we would be considered a very competitive expansion team.

Then again, if my aunt had a ... well, you know how the saying goes.

It was a rough second half of the RB game, but I think we're in a much better place than we'd thought we'd be going into July and our mid-season moves seem to address our major needs. I'm actually pretty optimistic looking forward and I really think we could be a 5 or 6 seed that shakes up the playoffs this year.

I was officiating a wedding yesterday, and though we couldn't be at the derby, some of us (including the groom) are huge fans and represented during the reception with NYCFC songs and scarves.

Despite a shitty loss yesterday, I just wanted to throw out a big thank you to you all. This supporters group really is a big family, and all of us from the wedding are proud of you all for such a great presence yesterday. Thanks for taking care of one another in the face of Red Bull dickheads, thanks for making a sick tifo, and thanks for waking up after a disappointing loss and continuing to support the team you love. You're all amazing!

9th? Out of 10?
The thing is that there's still a ton of soccer to be played.

The red line is the cut-off for the playoffs. Yes - they take more than half the league into the playoffs, and it's absurd.

We're sitting at 1 point per game, which granted, isn't good.

We're still within touching distance though of Orlando and Columbus. We've got two games in hand on the Union, so there's a good chance that we can overtake them here in the next couple weeks. Montreal worries me because they've still got so many games to play. And they've been okay so far this year - based on their PPG, if they'd played 17 games, they'd be in the playoffs at this stage.

Long story short, considering how bad we've been so far this season, we're really not that far out of the playoffs. With major reinforcements coming in, there's a chance this team puts it together to make a late run to the playoffs. And once you get there, just about anything can happen (even if a late LA Galaxy run to the title is what will happen).

Side note - isn't it a bit funny to see Philly one spot out of the playoffs with a goal differential of -10? And New England in second with a negative GD? This is what happens when there's a wide array of games played.

A ton of soccer against the better half of both leagues. We have played most of our games against the teams on the bottom half of both tables. We have ended up this poorly against the worst the league has to offer. Which good teams have we played? NE without Jones and Nguyen. Then we have gotten destroyed by NJ 2x and Seattle.

Once Lampard, Pirlo and the others join you can no longer use this excuse.
I'm sorry, but that's not at all the case.

It takes years to build a competent MLS squad. Look at Seattle. Look at the LA Galaxy. You think they built that overnight?

You can disagree all you want. Go for it. But it's a fucking expansion team, dude. You should have known what you signed up for. The first few years are about building a foundation in fan support and infrastructure. In MLS in particular, you need several drafts, waiver periods, and summer transfer windows to actually put together a team that is capable of winning at the top level.

I fully expect that this club is going to move the needle in MLS for big-time soccer. But that'll take a couple years. Not a single summer transfer window, and especially not when you're bringing in two old players here to sell tickets, more than win games.

You can't win titles simply by buying talent in MLS. Bob Kraft and his like have made sure of that. But you can funnel money into infrastructure that leads to winning soccer. We're playing a long game here, because you can't win in MLS any other way.

I can't believe Kreis didn't see what was happening in the second half and pull the full-backs in tighter to cover the long ball played to Wright-Phillips and whoever the other striker is. His only tactic seems to be to outscore the opposition.

I found this from an old RSL match review "having nine players inside the opposition half when you’re playing a side with Robbie Keane in it is probably unwise."

You could easily substitute "Robbie Keane" with "Bradley Wright-Phillips" to sum up his tactics.

The positives: 48k for a regular season MLS match. And in a matter of days, our entire team will be overhauled in a way rarely accomplished by any team during a transfer window. At least on paper, our team will very quickly transform from journeymen and expansion draft castaways to the looks of an international all-star team. As for this season, there unfortunately will be very little room for punting any points and ramping up given our position, but we should have a fighter's chance to make a run with a pretty sick squad. And if we do make the playoffs, we will be going in en fuego. Ok, back to the pain.

Who were the guys that our coach thought didn't give full effort? Can't be villa, mix was all over the place tackling and trying to press the defense. Jacobson was even involved in the attack. McNamara lost 6 lbs in sweat. Even though the defense looked lost, they were energetic.

The lack of effort comment sucks. It wasn't effort, it was game plan. Stop throwing the players under the bus after a loss. I really don't even blame grabavoy. He's not a defensive midfielder (it is actually laughable that he is played there) and he clearly has passed his prime. He's shouldn't even be out there. The shitball comments after losses just make Kreis so unlikeable.
I couldn't agree with this comment more. Grabavoy seems like a decent guy and he's not our only problem so I don't want to trash him. However, it's ridiculous for Kreis to keep playing him for 90 minutes in the center of the park, especially when it means leaving a guy like Poku on the bench.

Ballouchy was playing a decent game yesterday. No way he should have gotten subbed out. Should have brought Poku on for Grabavoy at halftime.

Option A: Kreis has no idea how soccer works tactically after decades in the game and through two matches with this exact thing happening against RBNJ

Option B: He has some significantly subpar players that can't defend BWP or execute a plan to cover each other (see also, Seattle match)

I mean, come on.

This is what happens when there's a wide array of games played.
I really want MLS to fix the huge discrepancy in games-played that happens until super late into the season. It's one thing for a couple of teams to have a game or two in hand, but, as you rightly imply, the MLS table is nonsensical garbage for far too much of the season.

Miazga's celebration really got under my skin to be honest, i was ready to jump out of the stands and choke him out
And that's exactly why he did it. It's a derby, you play hard and you fight for your crest and your fans. Both games, it seemed like only RB cared about this game. After the first 10 mins, our guys played like it was an end of the season friendly. I can't for the life of me understand how a team comes out so flat after halftime especially in a derby game. I just can't.
