RBNY Postgame

Laundry day.

Full disclosure: I wore my hat today. Was outside a lot and a shaved head will burn even under the clouds, and yesterday was enough of a burn.
I wore my hat too, and played with an NYCFC ball at the playground with the kid. Fortunately we didn't run into any young RB fans.

I agree dann. Went out and did the food shopping with the wifey this morning and I wore my hat and a tee. Thick and thin. Thick and thin.
Same. Went food shopping, wore my hat and coaches jacket. I always wear the hat though, so not wearing it would be weird for me. So I wore it. And I needed a light jacket, so I wore that too.

The ref not calling anything on RBNJ really did help their game plan. I guarantee a yellow after a few of those challenges (or a red after the Pirlo knee) would have changed things. There was a moment late in the first half where I think Bravo, Lopez and Pirlo were all carded already and nothing for RBNJ which was a joke.

Dax said in his interview that in a rivalry game like this you come out and throw a heavy tackle to show them you mean business - the whole team just came out and started thumping. A few fouls/cards would have shut that up real quick. Or I guarantee if the ref calls a penalty against Collin's tear down of Brilliant, the physical play would have calmed down.

This is NOT why RBNJ won, but it helped the boulder roll down the hill faster.

Does anyone know why Bravo was yellow carded during the game? Just curious. I know that it was during some scrum, but the shoddy camera work of FOX kept going away from the action, and so we never actually saw the infraction. And as far as I know, they also didn't replay it.

Because he was an NYCFC player.

The official reason was arguing. Probably was arguing why the RB players were not getting booked.

I saw a guy in Prospect Park this afternoon wearing a NYCFC jersey. Really?

There's only one explanation on how you can rep your colors after a blowout like that and be that tone deaf: you work for the front office.

It's nice jersey, from a fashion point. A supporter can support however they want to.

He probably got so wasted last night to try blur the memory of that disaster of a game that he forgot where he lived and curled up under a bush in the park for the night. He came to his senses this afternoon and trudged home with his tail between his legs

I think this scrum is when Bravo got the yellow. Definitely only one yellow during this, and definitely was on us.

I know most of us dream of choking Mikey, but I feel like this might've deserved a card or something.

Hands to the neck or face is a red card. Every time. This should be part of the video NYCFC sends to the league office Monday.

Every time.

Not this time. /s

A few times during the game I felt like we were getting yellows to appease Colin and prevent him from starting a fistfight on national TV. which seems like a really good way of doing things.

Macnamara looks like he's shoving away from a hug from a crazy old person. And that's Mata not Mikey... Let's not choke out Mata, we need him. Bravo looks drunk.

Here's what baffled me...

The nerve of whoever it was that decided that yesterday was the time to trot out Lampard and Harrison. If they were healthy enough to play yesterday, why weren't they played on Wednesday?

God Dammit. That's it. No one on our team is allowed to have hair that is in any way similar to anyone else's. I coulda sworn frosted bangs/front was Mikey. His is similar but less of it is dyed. (I had the same problem last year with McNamara/Grabavoy and Mullins/Wingert. *sigh*.)

We don't know if the plan was to play lampard or Harrison, PV might have thought it was a good time to bring them in since for all purposes the game is over at that point. Why not bring them in, can't hurt and gives them no pressure. Not like Harrison's first game would be down a goal to attempt to get the equalizer or Lampard to come in and protect a one goal lead.

If the game had went differently, subs most likely would be different depending on game states.

yup, repeated hard fouls by RBNJ and NYCFC was getting the cards. If you are a player and want to disrupt the players rhythm, and know you aren't getting carded...you start to get more bold. Exhibits A and B there.

It's really quite bizarre . I don't think there's another league in the world in any sport that protects it's star players less? I've had a long standing theory about MLS being afraid it will lose casual (sports not casual soccer) fans if it conforms to their prejudices about being a "Sissy" game so they let things slide. But even the acknowledged super full contact sports like hockey and American football protect their stars. All the rules against hitting Quarter Backs in certain situations etc. Do they see it as protecting the parity of the league? Curtailing the advantage of big money teams by letting the havenots hack the hell out of them? It's head scratching people the world over pay money to see players like Pirlo do his passing thing not people kicking lumps out of one another..

I will repeat what I said earlier.

Our guys cared about this game a lot... Probably too much.

They completely lost their heads and let their emotions run away with them. They let the big moment overwhelm them and cloud their judgment. I honestly think the big problems were the early goal, the lack of a card on Sam, followed by a bunch of cheap cards on us. Our guys were rightfully pissed off, but they needed to be professionals and get past it.

We all know that talent and tactics don't explain 7-0. Shitting the bed explains 7-0.

By the way do people think the Sam foul deserved red or yellow? Should he be suspended by the disciplinary committee? Will he?

I think red, yes, probably not.

I wore my NYCFC hoody while shopping in NJ yesterday. I'm with the team good or bad. Kinda felt like I had to. Luckily no one in Jersey realizes they have a soccer team so I didn't get any crap :D
