RBNY Postgame

I find it interesting that after the full-time whistle last night, the team's Twitter feed went completely dark for about 20 hours. Only minutes ago did they start doing anything.

That says to me that on some level, the team understands yesterday was completely unacceptable, which is -- at the very least -- a start.

I think they were afraid of backlash to any posts.

I don't think some realize what a score like this means. I am a Roma supporter and still get flack for the 7-1 loss to Man U from 10 years ago. And they aren't even domestic rivals let alone city rivals!

This is a result that is going to be engrained in our history for a long time. In 20 years they will still be talking about it before every time the two play each other.

I don't even think being undefeated against them 10 straight seasons is going to wash this away. Holy shit. Good thing I'm not in the city anymore. I would have let them have it at the supporter meet ups.

In some ways a 7-0 loss is better than a 2-0 loss.

It has to force the front office to examine inadequacies like players dribbling for 10 seconds down field only to cough up the ball without getting a pass off let alone a SOG.

I thought the same thing. If Saunders does enough good stuff to outweigh the bad and we still lose 7-0, then I'm ok going with Lurch no matter what his difficiencies are because 8-0 from a backup wouldn't feel anywhere near as devastating as yesterday.

Check the team's Facebook account. It's been dead since halftime of the game. They don't know how to respond to this whatsoever.

Even the NYCFC.com website is not being updated: http://www.nycfc.com/matchday

The Bad:
- The Super Frank Lampard announcement.
- David Villa announced the Star of the Match? There were no stars during this game (and there was no vote on Twitter).
- Throwing the balls into the stands.

The Good
- No player interviews after the game online.
- Patrick Vieira's post game press conference video and interview being posted online. No #askNYCFC questions, just questions the camera/PR guy asked.
- City Beats didn't play outside the area by the trains after the game.

You can't really change the halftime show just because we're down 3-0 at halftime. DJ Mode and City Beats were scheduled to play the Beastie Boys 30th anniversary show, it's expected they do that.

There's nobody in the NYCFC offices today. Get a day or two off, come back next week, and thinking about Sunday's match.

I remember a couple of references earlier in the thread to Mendoza being pulled down "by the last man." I disagree. The guy to his right is just beginning to pull him down. The guy to his left is ahead and closed fast.

I think the ref got this right, but I agree with all the other comments about how the ref called a one-sided game in terms of chippy play.IMG_4896.JPG

I'm not very impressed by PV sticking to his contention that "the team didn't play", which he trotted out both at halftime and the post match interview.

I feel like I saw a lot of fight from the team for at least 2/3 of the match, but what I didn't see was any managerial attempt to correct strategies which were evidently not working.

What happened to a manager taking personal responsibility, in public, anyway, for losses while ceding full credit for wins to the players?

No so sure about that. The other RB player only caught up and is leaning in front because Mendoza is already being pulled down. Both Mendoza and his tackler's momentum went from fast to zero and the other guy kept moving.

I saw a guy in Prospect Park this afternoon wearing a NYCFC jersey. Really?

There's only one explanation on how you can rep your colors after a blowout like that and be that tone deaf: you work for the front office.

Laundry day.

Full disclosure: I wore my hat today. Was outside a lot and a shaved head will burn even under the clouds, and yesterday was enough of a burn.

The ref not calling anything on RBNY really did help their game plan. I guarantee a yellow after a few of those challenges (or a red after the Pirlo knee) would have changed things. There was a moment late in the first half where I think Bravo, Lopez and Pirlo were all carded already and nothing for RBNY which was a joke.

Dax said in his interview that in a rivalry game like this you come out and throw a heavy tackle to show them you mean business - the whole team just came out and started thumping. A few fouls/cards would have shut that up real quick. Or I guarantee if the ref calls a penalty against Collin's tear down of Brilliant, the physical play would have calmed down.

This is NOT why RBNY won, but it helped the boulder roll down the hill faster.

I understand the hat (I almost grabbed my NYCFC hat out of habit), especially for those who have to protect the dome.

And it was last year's away black kit that the guy was wearing.

If I was in the NYCFC front office, I'd have been working on a video of all the erroneous non-calls to deliver Monday morning to the league office. With it is a note saying that if they want marquee players signed, then the league should make certain the refs don't allow cheap shots.

Or it shows he is a real fan. I am a huge Notre Dame football fan and when they went 3-9 in 2007 I was still wearing my gear all the time. Support them through the great (5 match unbeaten streak) and the embarrassing the same.

Difference between being a real fan and a glutton for punishment. I'm not a masochist. I dont want to have to think about that terrible performance or be asked to defend it.
