RBNY Postgame

Probably little difference, but I will add Brillant getting running bearhug tackled from behind in the box which 99 out of 100 times results in a PK. Strange day all around.
The calls felt oddly similar to the way that one game in Remember The Titans was called. I'm not calling a vast conspiracy here, but a home side is always supposed to get the benefit of the doubt which is where the Hometown Refs moniker came from. It felt more like the parent coach that is harder on their own kid because they're afraid of being accused of favoritism.

Also, Alexi Lalas can suck my balls. His anti-NYCFC campaign is getting more and more out of line for a color commentator.

He defended 95% of the goofy calls that went against us. He actually said Mendozza still had a lot to do after he was dragged down by the last man.

Even more pissed about yesterday now that I've sobered up. The only reaction from these players and management should be shame. The only solution is to show up July 3rd with a team that wants to get stuck in with a lineup picked to beat the opponent on the field in a shape and strategy that lets them do it.

The last 24 hours have pretty much been the worst 24 hours I can remember for teams I support. NYCFC lose 7-0 at home against their biggest rival. The Sharks get blown out 6-3 at home in the NHL western conference final. My favorite motorcycle racer starts on pole position at his home track, takes and early lead, only to have his engine blow up and force him to retire from the race. And now watching USA get blown out 5-1 against Russia in the bronze medal game of the hockey world juniors.

I think I need a break from sports for a little while...

Giants won, at least.

So after reading this thread and somewhat recovering from that debacle last night I have come to the following realization.....

Many here have stated how they can't believe how NYCFC has responded to the Derby games thus far. I get it. But, is it really a TRUE Derby for NYCFC players yet? I mean, Red Cows are just another team for these guys. I know what they hear and read blah, blah blah. They've only been in NYC for what, less than a year and a half? In actuality WE are in "invaders" and Red Cows are the ones protecting their home turf of the last 20 years (there's no denying that reality). They are the ones hearing NY is Blue, etc and saying "WTF????" we'll show them!!! So far thru four games they have.

Until our players mentality (at least the mentality that we can assume they have from their performances) develops into a kind of "dirty" (in a good way LOL) Derby mentality the Red Cows will have that advantage. I can only hope that yesterdays performance has awakened the sleeping giant within NYCFC.

There is no better way of starting a rivarly then the way it happened yesterday. If this wasn't a rivarly already, it certainly is now. Give it 2/3 years and we will certainly be concidered for the "best rivarly in MLS".

I have been to rivraly matches in other countries including Italy and holy crap it is intense.

There is always fights before the match with a bunch of police officers just like what happened yesterday with the NYC and NJRB fans.

There is also fights during the match between the PLAYERS which kinda happened yesterday as well. Pirlo and TMac totally F'd up some of their players and that was the best part of the match. RJ pushed a kid down and I'm pretty sure their was moment off screen where something else happened because out of nowhere everyone was in the middle of the field arguing.

The best thing about this 7-0 loss? It should spark a bitter rivarly. If we take this loss and dispise the red bulls because of this the next time we play we could take this far.

Unfortunately PV is just going to put this one behind ... Anywhere else in the world this would be used as motivation to beat the crap out of them next time. Maybe that's why MLS is "far behind the rest of the world". There is no extream emotions.

Ulrich Ulrich is a good dude with great seats, and that's about all I have to say about the game.
The feeling is mutual. Just wish we would have been watching something other than the cattle doing the slaughtering.

hey, Seth Seth - I didn't mean for my post to come off so confrontational. I definitely get your point. I am just glad it was made clear to him that people aren't pleased.

Thank GOD I cannot remember any of yesterday's game .
Unintended consequences of extra time in the FA Cup. We run a tight consumption schedule. That extra beer was instrumental in my honest assessment.

Honestly even if we beat NJ twice in July I feel like they really already won...

Not any sort of a problem at all, but thanks for saying that.

I don't personally hate or dislike Lampard and hope he can play for us and help the team. I can also totally understand people who want to ship him back to England without benefit of an actual ship.

In 10 years I hope to come visit you in our real stadium's equivalent of your batter's eye seats, buy you a beer, and have a toast of "Frank who?".

I guess the one positive is we have just lost 7-0 to the jersey boys but are still 2nd in the conference and above them still. Yeah i don't feel any better either...

I may not be able to handle the BES anymore. I'm a little too honest for those seats. I may need to find a section that is more proletariat in its make-up.

To a degree I agree since I know many were cool with each other....but at the end of the day rivalries are for the fans I mean I'm sure lots of barca and Real Madrid players are friends or cool with each other some even are teammates in national teams etc.

and they can say how "red" the city is when I still rarely see RB fans in the streets (except some kids....I think they are academy kids since they are all dressed in team outfits and bags)

Been "red" for 20 years yet I rarely see any fans around

I agree with you. I'm not expecting the players to carry the same angst against each other as the fans do in these Derbies. I just feel that "between the lines" NJRB are carrying that Derby angry streak within them. We don't have it yet. Maybe a 0-7 drubbing will help with that.
