RBNY Postgame

Here's probably the biggest long-term concern from this game:

The young players on NYCFC (Namely, Matarrita, Lopez, Shelton, McNamara) all completely s--- their pants today. The game was too big for them. Hopefully that's just an experience they all need, otherwise how can we trust this group to not s--- their pants during the big games we have to play later in the season?

I've learned never to question the effort and compete level of professional athletes. These guys care, you know they do. So in a loss like this, you have to ask why it looks like they didn't care. What happened out there that caused this team to capitulate so easily.
Our coach sent out a team of emotionally unprepared pansies. Awesome. That's encouraging.

Not disagreeing with you at all, just saying I'm glad his first appearance this year was when everyone was already furious rather than having it be a continuing thing until he made it onto the field.
So you think it ends here? Oh no. It definitely doesn't end here. He will be viewed as a shit stain on our unopened Christmas stocking underroos for all time.

Eta: I know what you're saying. But I just don't believe or even hope it will come true.

I like Pho Bao soup. It is delicious. Bet I get it quicker than I would in Jersey. That's all the positive I got.

For all my Frank hate, I didn't boo his first appearance last year and I didn't even boo today.
But after his "poor me, they boo me because I'm injured"act today, I just might boo him on Sunday. What a tool.

We know we are not that bad of a team. For us to look that bad from ever single player, tells me something had to be wrong. I think it is likely that the three games across four time zones in a week probably took its toll on the team. Could also have been a coaching issue where the intensity level was not prepared for.

That said, the issues we have all seen this year were still present, the inability of the keeper to start possession. The inability of that keeper to move faster than my grandmother, and the inability of the midfield to provide any sustained possession.

I think Vieira fell into a bad coaching habit of thinking that since we were winning, he should ignore flags and not change anything. Saunders is statistically and visually one of the worst keepers in the league. Mikey Lopez is an uncontrolled CDM who was playing recklessly even when sitting on a yellow.

Seriously...how is our defending still utter sh!te? We literally have one of the worst defenses in the league. Its as if management didnt address this at all in the offseason.

God I miss Angelino

Lampard confirms his complete lack of self-awareness yet again, as well as his propensity for saying and doing the wrong thing.
You'd think this SOB has been wandering around Kensington getting stroked off for a decade.

So... I just got home from work... Did a split shift so I can watch the game... Shit idea looking back on it. Worked 4 am - 2pm back 6-10. Walk in and immediately login to HBOGO to stream GoT episode and realize it's Saturday. Didn't think the day could get worse but it did lol.

I have never been so thankful that my wife scheduled a weekend event forcing me to miss a game. I watched the first half and didn't bother with the rest.

We know the team is better than that game. The whole season to this point has demonstrated it. After all, we are still ahead of New Jersey in the standings.

So, how does this happen? Bad matchup, bad preparation, bad energy, all those contributed, but they don't explain 7-0. That happens because the team loses its focus and lets the game get away from them - completely. Soccer can be like that. There are no timeouts, and you can't just sub out the players. Things can snowball. Don't believe me, ask a Brazilian.

I honestly think our guys got distracted by the physicality of the game and the fact that dumbshit ref was only carding one team. They were upset about the fouls and the calls and weren't focused on what they should have been. The Red Bulls, to their credit, were properly focused. The fact that New Jersey were already up a goal and have the upper hand in the rivalry didn't help. Once a couple more went in, all bets were off.

There are two risks here. First, that they are totally in our heads. I don't think today happens if that wasn't already to some extent the case. This may make things worse. Second, we can't let this derail what has been a positive season up to now. I worry this could lead to a lack of confidence or, worse, infighting. Hopefully not, as those could kill the season.
