Redbulls Postgame

If that gets you pissed off, your head would have exploded back in the day when they would cut away from the Cosmos games and go to a full commercial break during play. ;)
Seriously? No wonder why Cosmo fans are so pissed off all the time.

Oh yeah, that's the way is was back in those days. There was nothing like cutting away for a commercial break during a close game and holding your breath that a goal wouldn't be scored while they were running Joe Manfredi Toyota ads. :D

Okay. After processing my anger over Mix getting subbed out for Calle and Calle then pulling a hammy to leave us a man down I went all OCD on Kreis's substitutions for the year.

Built in a spreadsheet so it doesn't copy very well here, but below is every substitution Kreis has made this year. (I've also included an editable link to a google sheet so anyone who wants can mess with the data too.)

Here are the things I found interesting. Though I'm sure there are many more ways to parse this data.
  • Kreis has used all 3 subs in every game except 1 this year. One could make the argument that with a first year team this is good coaching as he is testing different combinations. Or one could make the argument that he never feels he has the right combo on the field because he has never actually put the right combo on the field. (Chicken dinner for the lucky fan who can guess which of those I think.)
  • He once subbed Kwame in for Mix.
  • He didn't sub Poku in until the fourth game of the season. Kwame and Velasquez were both subbed in earlier in the season than Poku.
  • Wingert has been subbed out in the first half hour twice.
  • In 13 of our 22 games our 3rd sub has been used before the 80th minute. Given how many injuries we've had during games, that seems like a coach who likes to play with fire.
  • Ballouchy has been subbed out 13 times, most on the team. Mix has been subbed out 4 times. Grabavoy has only been subbed out once.
  • Grabavoy has been subbed out the same number of times as Villa. No. Wait. Actually, Villa has been subbed out twice. So Grabavoy has been subbed out fewer times than Villa. Please excuse me while my head explodes.
  • Poku has been subbed in 13 times, by far the most on the team. He subbed into games # 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13 before he got his first start in our 14th game of the season. Now, at 22 games, Poku has 3 starts. (Bonus chicken dinner for anyone who provides a list of players with more than three starts and another for a list of all the players who started a game before game #14.)
I could be wrong, but I don't think the substitution patterns reflect well on our esteemed head coach.

There's no beating a post with spreadsheets and bullet points.

Anyone else get fucking pissed watching Fox Sports and them whoring themselves out and taking away from the game by cutting the screen for ads?

This is a screenshot someone had taken from a game last year but you get the point. I fucking hate this so much. I am so happy they lost the BPL bid to NBC so I wouldn't have to watch more of this amateur crap.

fox-sports-soccer-advertising.jpg

The timing is always poor as well. If they HAVE to do it, they should sneak it in when they're showing replays or when the ball is out of play. Really frustrating.

Science proving kreis is shit. #kreisout

We wasted a year Waiting for Lampard. Honestly, any MCFC fans on this forum now who really want to challenge our irritation over it are looking at it through a biased lens. Many here called it. It has come to pass.

RIP NYCFC 2015 Inaugural season. Died 12/31/14.[/QUOTE]

Lol...Mr. Mulligans are we on the walking dead episode now...

Last week we outed Grabavoy... can we all agree on Jacobson now? I did not see any defensive letdown while both Poku and Mix were on the field. Jacobson was an utter mess - he even fell asleep on a Pirlo pass when he was the only player in the area. I am with Gavin23 Gavin23 ... time to play our best player and let the chips fall where they may. Time to go full O with Villa/Poku up front and Lampard/Mix/Pirlo/TMac.

They only show up vs NYC... and if you hate red might be time for a new forum name.

o_OUmm. Had not thought of that. JalapenoDiva? Mmm...green does not looks good on me. :D

Am i the only one who thinks poku often doesnt do enough on defense? With fresh legs i expected him to support more than he did.

On a different noteWe had 3 field players start our first game and again in sunday. Teams that have been playing together are much better now than they were in march and april. We are stilll in early season mode and it shows but we will get better as the guys play together more.

I hate to dig out the dead horse, but where are all the man city fans who were saying that Lampard is so good after missing more than half the season he'd slot right in right away and dominate? After all he played for Man City. That automatically means that he'll be unstoppable in "the" mls. We were so privileged to get a player who scored important goals for Man City. He better play like Messi for our remaining games and get us to the playoffs or else it's going to get REAL for certain posters.

They're long gone. The EPL season has started, they won't be showing their faces here anytime soon.

I'm a Man City fan and *I'm* still here. Because this is my city and this is my team. And yes, I do think Lampard will contribute a lot, but it was also his first game (not really counting the sub appearance last time all that much). I think this team can be amazing with a few games under their belts together, and yes, I expect to see great play from Lampard (and Pirlo and Villa and Mix and Poku and...). And yes, also, I had hoped for a better showing against NJRB but to be honest we're playing as if it's the beginning of the season with all new players their first time together and they're playing like one of the best teams in "the" MLS. Which they are, no matter how much we hates them. I'm not exactly giving up on this season because if we can win three in a row, say, we're right back in the race, but I'm also looking forward to next season when we have the current core and hopefully some upgrades.

So, remember Pirlo's amazing first game where he was able to spin away from anyone and everyone and was dropping ridiculously good passes at the feet of runners dozens of yards away? Well, Lampard will have games like that too, because yes, he *is* that good. And when Villa, Lampard, and Pirlo all have one of those good days all at the same time it will just be a thing of beauty to watch. That's what we have to look forward to as NYCFC fans.

Just my humble opinion. And no, I'm not demanding anyone else like Lampard either. But I do.

No it bothers me every time I watch him play. He has shown the skill to take the ball from a dribbling opponent whenever he wants. The problem is once the ball passes into our defensive half all he wants to do is jog back slowly behind the play and wait for the outlet pass. I get it, he's an offensive player and I love what he brings on that end but coming into the game as a sub surrounded by guys with tired legs he needs to be tracking back hard and breaking things up.

It drives me NUTS that saying "well, it was only Frank's first real game" is used as an excuse. This was EXACTLY why so many of us were furious over the "loan" extension. We don't need our DP coming up to speed just as the season comes to an end for us because we didn't make the playoffs! We don't have a few more games for these guys to gel together. We lost the luxury of time when we got beaten by weaker teams early in the season- precisely because we didn't have DP's and we were making due with expansion picks for the most part. This was all so utterly predictable it's infuriating- and it's all on CFG. They made a really bad decision keeping Lampard, and now they're paying for it- MC didn't win the league last season, and it's looking pretty dire for our team this season. Bravo, CFG.

By the time 373 played this many minutes for Man City he scored. He showed up fit for MC and lame for us. F*ck him, f*ck Man City and f*ck CFG.

I believe the 1994 World Cup was when they introduced commercial free soccer to the US, with little ad logos in the corner of the screen.

That was also the event that introduced keeping a scoreboard on the screen at all times. Now, that is ubiquitous in all sports. It started with the 1994 World Cup, because that was where the small on screen ads were located.

I took some time off before looking at this thread. A few thoughts on the game and players.

RBNJ deserved to win, but the 2-0 scoreline was deceiving. There were long stretches of the game when we were more dangerous, and we certainly had the first few good chances. When they scored the first goal, however, they had controlled the ball in our half for a while and had played dangerous passes into our box a few times. I had already said we were going to let one in if that didn't change.

Defense - Better this game, notwithstanding the errors that led to the two goals. There were a lot of dangerous balls into our area; all but one were expertly cut out. Saunders had less to do than usual.

Saunders - Another bad game. Could have done more on both goals. On the first goal, he sets up defensively in front of Mena and not BWP. So, when Mena whiffed, BWP had an open net. I also think he should have had better position on the second goal. I'm not writing him off, as he's had some great games, but the last two are not among them.

Mena - Improved a lot from the last game, but still needs consistency. The whiff on the first goal is 100% inexcusable.

Angelino - A solid game. They attacked down his side a lot in the first half - they clearly thought Sam could take him. Sam got some dangerous crosses in, but they were all handled. Angelino did a very good job making runs out of the back.

Iraola - Probably our most disappointing acquisition this summer. Not because he is bad - but he is nowhere near as good as we had hoped. He was beaten badly on that second goal. He lacks the pace to push forward and get back in time on defense. Both goals were scored off of his side last night.

Midfield - Our inability to hold possession and especially to take it back was the biggest problem in the game.

Pirlo - Rough game. They clearly had a plan to get physical with him, and the ref was letting a lot go. Pirlo needs to adjust to this, because it is going to be every team's strategy.

Mix - Great effort, as others have noted.

Lampard - I liked him a lot this game. Half the battle of being a goal scorer is making runs and receiving the ball in a dangerous position. He did this a lot Sunday night. His finishing was off, but he's still not sharp after the layoff. I expect to see good things from him going forward.

McNamara - His effort and smart play have earned him a place in the Starting XI, and nothing changed about that on Sunday.

Villa - His effort and skill have been great all year. His decision making has been questionable, and Sunday was quite problematic. Too many times he tried for a fancy pass - a backheel, for example - that wasn't there, and we lose a promising attack. He also didn't always find open players when he could have. Finally, offsides is getting to be a problem for him. He's still been great for us, but the bad decision making is holding him back a bit.
