Realistically I think an in-house hire is the most likely explanation for the public silence. Those candidates are regularly at the CFG compound in Manchester anyway so there's no news, and as employees CFG can control their leaks better. And though this involves speculation, I think it's very possible that Guardiola does have a break clause with a 12/31 or 1/1 exercise date (to leave at the end of this EPL season), and CFG is waiting to see if he triggers it before moving any pieces. If so, expect an announcement for us shortly after that, probably between 1/2 and 1/5. But who really knows?

I'm curious if the CBA may be an obstacle here. (Not trying to give the club an excuse)
I think it's at least arguably a valid reason to defer player acquisitions. I can't see any reason why it would make sense to delay hiring a coach, however. For one thing, we're not getting a new CBA by the time camp opens. Unless they're planning on opening camp with Perez running things as a temp with a head coach TBA.
Typing that, at this point, I would not be shocked if Perez gets the job. Not saying it's probably but I can't say it's unthinkable. Nothing makes sense right now.

Didn't stop literally every other club from signing players AND coaches, though.
This ancedotal but most of the moves seem to be DP moves whereas there has not really been a numerous amount of allocation dollar or under the cap type of moves outside of the expansion teams. Could be a signal that there are allocation and salary cap changes down the pipeline. We obviously can't really make a move until we offload Medina. Medina with the Paraguay u23s is a good boon for us if we would like to offload him. We also don't know if the buyout provision is something will change in the CBA either.

At the same time, I think it's totally ok for everyone to shit all over the club. They deserve the optics they created.

What if we believe the league isn’t happening to start the year because there is no movement on a CBA

I think we'll be ok. Coach or no coach, we basically have the same guys. They know how to play and without parks, ofori, sweat, and Miller, the starting XI pretty much is a given.

Even if we only have an interim coach for awhile we should be ok. I think our guys are mentally strong enough to handle it in the short term.

The bigger concern is not being able to make any moves in the transfer window for players since a new coach's input is crucial for that.

We won't really know who is going to be on this team until Wednesday, which is wild. I'm starting to wonder how much getting a guy that is going to stay more than 1-2 years is making this search take so long. GvB is destined for bigger things than NYC, so maybe CFG are trying to find someone really willing to stay long-term. That said, "long-term" is what every team expects from its coach until he or she does too well.

NYCFC is now officially the only team in MLS without a coach.

Also, what is this that “NYCFC closed its offices” for the holidays? Haven’t you seen other teams hire coaches, talk to potential players, rumors, etc...it is quite frankly a load of horses*it that NYCFC is off. This isn’t an accounting office with a slow period. Sports franchises don’t “close” for the holiday period.

Holidays are good! All clubs (and accountants) should take them. But they should probably announce a coach before they do.

Honestly, I agree. What's wrong with closing for a week or so? Under normal circumstances where we had a coach, I'd have no problem, as everyone deserves a break at some point. However, the fact that we don't have a coach makes it annoying.

<Smacks forehead>.......

Hopefully you’re kidding because everything you wrote is a giant leap of reality.

Missing one player from a group kills the continuity, and were missing a few and our starting XI is absolutely not a given without knowing the style of play the new coach intends. Further, we saw how atrocious the team played this past year even with the same guys inserted as Dome was working with the group. And there’s a huge difference in rhythm and intensity that a coach brings to practice that players can not replicate on their own.

Mentally strong???? You missed that peach of a match against Toronto in the Fall.

The holidays haven’t kept the Chicago Fire or Inter Miami from announcing a coach.

Good perspective, though, because I don’t think we would be up in arms if they went on holidays with a coach in place.

You're just flat-out wrong here. The Yankees -- THE YANKEES -- close their corporate office during the holidays. That doesn't mean the sporting side has that time off, their general manager is still working, but the business side is closed for the holidays. This is a pretty normal thing for a sports team not currently in-season.

Of course if things happen, teams can still make announcements and stuff during this week (see Inter Miami). But it's not unusual for teams to give their employees these two weeks off.

I'd love if the level of understanding of the game amongst fans improved to the point that this is no longer the case.
Yeah. Try going to the r/Everton subreddit and making the factually true assertion that Everton's underlying numbers under Marco Silva were actually fine and the extraordinarily high variance in football as a sport meant that the results simply weren't reflective of that. It doesn't go over well. There will be an upturn under Ancelotti for which he will get credit which most likely would have happened under Silva too.

Out of our starting XI we are missing parks. That's it. We still have everyone else which means sands would probably step in for parks.

Sure a coach is necessary. We'll have an interim coach appointment. I'm just saying they will be ok until we get an official head coach.

And yes, I think they are mentally strong. Two defensive mistakes in one game doesn't change that. One from a player who we all know tends to do stupid things.
