That's exactly how it is, particularly in MLS. Most clubs label the jerseys "primary" and "secondary" rather than home and away.

This. Look at how rarely EPL teams use their second jerseys. Not every team has a white jersey like in other sports so there will be conflicts. I wouldn't expect us to wear black against Philly either.

There are only three games where the black kit would possibly come into play. Assuming we will wear blue every game at home, there is the Montreal game, their home kit is darker blue, but likely too close for us to also wear blue. The galaxy game, home kit is white with blue sash, could require our blacks. And the Vancouver game, home kit is white with the blue mountain things.

LA and Vancouver are not definites. But there are your three away games that could require black.

I approve of this thought. The White on the blue has always looked better to me.

We all agree about the white on blue but its etihad that decided they wanted their logo in a dark colour on the shirt as they said it showed up better in pictures. They pay the money they decide I guess

I think they usually do, but in this case we would have no choice because both their jerseys are blue leaving our only option as black.

I'm not so sure about this. KC can wear their secondary which is horizontal stripes. Even against our home there's still enough contrast. NYCFC can wear white shorts and socks and KC can wear dark shorts and socks.
I would bet against us wearing the away kit.

MCFC once wore their new away kit for the following season at the last home again of the season to play Middlesbrough who play in red anyway! Very strange to see your team play in the away kit at home. Although I'm sure Tottenham once played in our red and black away kit at Maine Road once due to their kit man forgetting to pack the kit
