A bit juicer and loaded of a nickname compared to Wanderers, and there’s something strangely appealing to being called the Vagabonds since surely it’s unique to any other team in existence.

We’ll visit your stadium, make ourselves at home, and leave it a mess.

I'm not sure why I clicked into this link but here are some of the huh / wtf quotes that made me glad I did:

"In five home playoff matches throughout their short history, NYCFC have won twice and lost three times, having scored six goals and conceded nine on aggregate (that scoreline was helped by a 3-1 victory in last year’s first round over Philadelphia; with that, the aggregate gets very bleak indeed). Matarrita’s boner is but another bad memory to add to the collection."

"Still, the Pigeons will rue the new knockout rules and their best defender’s blunder for yet another unforgiving New York winter."

Here's the list:

If you subtract the NOI from the Revenue, you get the expenses. I thought it was interesting to see what each team is spending in relation to each other.

ATL $71mm
LAG $59mm
LAFC $55mm
SEA $46mm
TFC $62mm
POR $43mm
NYCFC $61mm
CHI $39mm
DCU $40mm
SKC $41mm
MNU $32mm
ORL $40mm
NJ $30mm
FCC ?
HOU $29mm
SJ $40mm
NER $31mm
PHI $26mm
RSL $19mm
FCD $40mm
VAN $25mm
MTL $30mm
CLB $26mm
COL $23mm

So we're actually the 3rd highest spending team behind ATL & TOR. Most the league spends around $30-$40mm a year. The upper tier of $50-$60mm is LAG, LAFC, NYCFC, SEA & TOR. With ATL in a league of their own at $70mm. Makes sense when you look at the rosters are records. Lower tier teams of $20-$25mm are COL, CLB, VAN & RSL. That makes sense too based on their rosters and records. If anything this tiered spending is starting to prove the salary cap is a sham, it may be time for an open system.

NYCFC is tied with Chicago for the second highest operating net loss in the league, behind only Toronto, which indicates that ownership is committing significant out of pocket funds to the project. The team is 7th in revenue which is so-so given the market.
How long will it take to recoup a 500m stadium?

What brings in more money, a stadium or aging stars?

I'd assume you would finance the stadium. which would replace the rent NYCFC is currently paying. That has me thinking, since the YS rent is supposedly astronomical ($1mm a match?), and I doubt any other team in the league is paying close to that to play a match, does that mean they're really towards the middle of the pack ($30-$40mm) in spending on pure club expenditures? That would match with the Dome quotes and he does have some inside knowledge we don't.

We know so little about how these figures are calculated it's hard to draw conclusions. Does it include stadium depreciation for teams that own? If so, how is MBA split between the Falcons and United? As there is no reason for this accounting to match MLS salary cap rules, is the fee for Mitrita counted in full for 2019 or spread out over the length of his contract?

But at the same time we need the same level of skepticism directed towards those lists of team salary spending that give SKC credit for having the fifth largest salary total while only carrying 2 DPs (Russell and Gutierrez) paid only a combined $3.35 million.

Yeah, it’s crazy because our valuation is without a stadium compared to those with (save ATL and Seattle?), so if we build a $350M stadium does our value all of a sudden spike to over $700M+?

And these numbers also don’t take into account SUM, so it’s all just Wild Assed Speculation.

How are we spending that much money????

I would guess there is some amount of those expenses going towards inflating income for Man City to help with FFP?
