2015 Salary/cap Space

You can't hide players in the 21-30 places. For a start, there are age limitations for those slots - I believe you can only occupy one if you are 25 or under - and they also have maximum wages which are much lower than the normal max wage. In fact I think that the highest a player in one of slots 27-30 can earn is somewhere comparable to the minimum a player in the first 20 slots would be allowed. There's a reason that those slots are basically designated as youth slots.

Can you find the link for that rule? I couldn't find it.

Hmm. I can't find my source, either, so I guess I have to conclude that I made it up. That said, apparently it wasn't complete fantasy. This source confirms that if you are on the minimum wage in slots 25-30 you must be under 25 and not old enough to turn 25 at any point during the season.

Age though isn't the problem. Just need to keep the wage individually under $387k and (currently) $3.1 million collectively.

Hopefully they raise the DP salary mark to like 500k as well, that way teams could buy essentially 5 or 6 "DPs" by our current standard.

6 DPs at $500k would equal $3 million. If cap goes to $4.7 million, then it would leave $1.7 million for the other 24 players... :(

Don't forget dat allocation money...

Btw, salary cap only counts toward the top 20 earners on the team.

What about a $5 million cap with 4 DP slots + an American DP slot, with the American DP slot taking less of the wage bill and the 4th foreign DP slot as a right-off/freebie, but is only available if the other 3 slots + U.S slot are filled?

It would help the league keep the best American talent, it would increase the quality of the league, and would encourage teams to have the full compliment of DP players.

I think the floor needs to be raised. DPs are nice, but the only way the quality goes up is if the average salaries increase. I'd prefer a larger salary cap raise to adding any DP slots.

Also allocation only works Year 1 for NYCFC. They can't count on it every year. Unless they are dead last in the league.

Many extra DP's really isn't the answer for growing the quality of the league. The point of the DP's should be to increase viewership which intern increases revenue. With increased revenue you have more money to pay the mid level guys and up the quality of the entire league. I don't think the DP number needs to increase just the Cap room. 3 DPs per team is plenty to get the viewers and to make a quality team you need quality mid level players. A massive talent gap between a lamps and the 11th starter really doesn't help anyone.

ozgie ozgie raises a good point. Improving the league is as much about paying those mid-level guys to stay here (Mexican talent, Tier II Americans playing or looking abroad) as it is star power.

Now more DPs helps that as well. but I'm sure Thierry Henry would rather create for the Sporting Kansas City roster with it's team full of 150k players than NYRB after it adds Ronaldinho.

All of the averages will be similar because most teams are up against the Cap. 3.1 Million divided by 20 players.

SKC spends their money more wisely.

But you were the one that said Henry would prefer to play w / SKC because they have a bunch of 150k paid players, but RB has many $150k and more earners too.... alright.

If Lampard really going to MC for the year, drop that $387k DP hit to $158k for 1/2 year player.
