I wouldn’t typically give up on a guy after 41 minutes, but he flunked the eye test being slow, timing off, misplaced passes, and unceremoniously received a red card for a reckless tackle. He also hadn’t played a meaningful match in two years. If we use the logic assigned to SAS, then the Girona boss(es) didn’t have a use for him and he was only “saved” because NYCFC was/is cheap with recent transfers and Dome is his buddy, so what part of that suggests he’s capable of playing at MLS’s speed of play? And my reaction is directly attributable to his harming the club vs RB.He had one bad game -- I would hope a new signing gets more chances than that. Red Bulls are a very difficult team to make your debut against, so I'd like to see him get another chance. Don't give up on a guy after 41 minutes. That's needlessly and perhaps harmfully reactionary.
Mata to the bench wouldn't surprise me as long as Callens can play. If Callens is still out, then I don't think we have the personnel to keep Mata on the bench. Judging by the way SAS was used this season, I can't imagine a recall is coming. Both coaches seem to have no use for him.
I assume Callens will be available to play thus negating any need for Mata, but as we’ve seen in the past (and maybe it’s more because of PV than NYCFC), just because injuries would suggest sat players should be tapped for playing time, never say never with said player’s availability - Mix was never called in for meaningful matches once frozen out even though our midfield was decimated forcing Lopez to start. Maybe Dome has forgiven Mata for the Red card, and maybe he hasn’t. We’ll see with the Columbus match.
I think you’re reading too much in to SAS having no role to play. He needed minutes as much as anybody, hence the Loan and not a Sale.
