So this is really interesting. It would require some roster movement. We don’t have any international spots left, so for him to come back, we would either need someone to be getting a green card within the next month, or we would need to cut a player (Amagat!?). But the roster freeze is September 14th, so we would have to cut someone before then if that’s the plan
Given Ring’s current hobble, this would be quite a gift.

Mutual decision to part ways. Retire. Amagat.

I don’t think he’s coming back. Wishful thinking guys.
We’ll be knocked out of the playoffs too early.

Seriously though, and I alluded to this earlier this week or last when I saw the photo of him on the alter-G, but he’s way ahead of schedule and could make it back. Just yesterday they said he’s ready to stop using the Alter-G, and if that’s the case he’s putting full weight on it for running which definitely implies he’s not feeling pain (which he would feel if not fully healed). The biggest issue is muscle atrophy and muscle memory for the quick motions needed for cutting and start/stopping and also his endurance carrying his full weight with intensity (as opposed to the Alter-G making him the effective mass of Maxi). I bet he now needs 6 weeks to get to minimum game shape/fitness and then they’ll assess whether to make a go of it to add him to team training. I’m very hopeful that he’s gonna be ready to play again provided there are no setbacks and MLS roster rules don’t keep him from playing; my recollection is that he was not placed on the season ending injury list, so he should be able to be included if we have the international spot.

i think he will be back but wont be as effective since he wont be fully match fit and will still be rusty
Effective compared to Fernandinho or to Amagat? I guarantee if he’s cleared to play, he’s gonna be more effective than any other midfielder we have on the team not named Maxi or Ring.

well when you put it that way.....he will be effective no matter the form ....but i agree. I guess i mean he wont be peak herrera but still would stand more of a chance than what we currently have aside from ring/ maxi.

maybe sands can fill in if he fully gets dome's trust

NEW YORK CITY FC WELCOMES PLAYERS BACK
NEW YORK — Midfielders Alex Ring and Ebenezer Ofori will be available when New York City FC returns from its two-week break to play Minnesota Sept.22. And stalwart Yangel Herrera is expected back in full training this week following a 15-week absence due to injury.

Consequently, 18-year-old James Sands will be relegated to the bench or sent on a second loan stint after his second consecutive start for New York City FC in their 1-1 draw with D.C. United Saturday at Yankee Stadium. . . .

“Jimmy played amazing, he played like someone with experience in MLS,” Torrent said after Sands appeared in just his third league game over two seasons. “Maybe the next month he plays in another team, because I need Jimmy to play in every single game (week).”

Sands would embrace the opportunity to return to Louisville under his former youth national team coach, John Hackworth. . . .
