2022 Roster Discussion

taty has worked hard to improve and develop to the player he is now and no doubt, he will continue to work hard to improve and develop even more.

it just doesn't make sense to me, if he wants to play at the highest level, that he'd want to go to south america. Sure, playing for river might be a dream of his, but i personally think if he wants to become an international star, he needs to go to europe. going to south america seems like a backwards move for this point in his career. i think ronny probably advising him to wait til the summer is good advice since summer windows are much more active.

like many of you, i'm sure, i just hope this transfer saga doesn't effect his performance on the field.

If the performance drops, then we won’t get anything for him and he can’t go anywhere.

Assuming Taty does not move this window, then the for both he and Sands NYCFC is taking a risk of injury or poor performance that will lower their value before a sale can be executed.
The Differences are, that for Taty:
  • NYCFC will control how much he plays, at what position(s), under what system, as well as his training and health maintenance.
  • NYCFC's upside is not capped.
  • The period of risk is shorter (6 months / 18 months).
  • NYCFC can sell to anyone on mutual agreement instead of another party holding an exclusive option.
Yet it seems there are people who approve of the Sands move but are troubled by keeping Taty here until July.

People are living in a backwards world if they don’t want Taty for another 6 months. Literally the bonus of not giving up Taty in the next 6 months is HAVING Taty for the next 6 months

i want taty to stay. its just that i dont know where he is mentally if he feels screwed out of a chance to go to a team that he wanted to go, he plays like crap then NYCFC dont get the money they want. also i still dont think anyone is giving $15M for him.

I think we’ll get $15 million or more in the summer.

I haven't seen anyone in this camp. I think we were all hoping for Taty to stay through the Champions League and sell into the summer market. (I think we all wanted the same with Sands as well)
Some people mat be concerned about the potential for distraction or a disgruntled Taty, but im pleased with him staying.

Wouldn't be the first time I misunderstood someone on the internet.

Wouldn't be the first time I misread some things on the internet.

One thing that struck me was how different the conversations about Taty and Sands have been. The conversations about Sands here and on Reddit tended to be equal parts what's a good move for the team but also what's a good move for Sands and his future development. With Taty the conversation has been almost entirely where is he going, when is he going, and for how much. I guess we as a fan base are more invested in the future of Sands given his USMNT prospects and him being our first HG player.

That said what do people think is the best move is for Taty from a development standpoint? For those that know more about the leagues in Argentina and Brazil, how does a move to one of the SA teams being mentioned as a Taty destination compare to the MLS? From a total league talent standpoint is this a significant step up or would a move to some of the places Taty is being linked to be similar to Sands with rangers where he's on a top team in the league, playing in some but tournament games but the rest of the league isn't that much different than MLS?

I've been meaning to mention the following in relation to the Sands deal.

I noticed that a few subsequent MLS-to-Europe transfers also used the structure of an 18-month loan with an option to buy. I have not previously heard of such a long loan.

I wonder if this is something new - perhaps to deal with cash shortages in the pandemic. Just a thought.
