Houston - Postmatch

Any particular reason why Allen over Struna? I know we don't have a large sample size on Struna yet, but just curious
It's a bit of a toss-up. I felt like Struna was slow to deliver. That could be overcome with time, but we don't have a lot of time.

So not just fuck PRO but fuck IFAB. If a restart leads to a goal in the attacking phase of play it should reviewed. It's ludicrous not to review it.

Sadly, Borg is right, and it's completely stupid. Below is a quote from the IFAB release on VAR.

In addition, an incorrectly taken restart (e.g. ball moving at a free kick, foul throw-in etc.)
which ultimately leads to a goal or penalty incident cannot be reviewed as this is
not a ‘match-changing’ decision and it should be detected by the match officials.

- Section 5.1.1., page 20

This makes absolutely no sense. An incorrectly taken restart could be a match-changing decision, if it is part of the buildup to a goal. Just like a handball or foul that creates a turnover or provides the offense with an advantage.

This came up a few weeks ago. Someone made an illegal throw-in, I think he was on Toronto. It directly led to goal and Twellman was going off on how it should have been reviewed until someone told him it cannot be reviewed.

Yeah, that makes no sense to me whatsoever. Seems like it would be quite an easy thing to review and one of the most objective VARs available.

Also, I like how the rule includes "should be detected by the match officials". Ummmmmm, that's the whole reason VAR is in place to begin with. Because something wasn't detected by the match officials.

So a foul committed 20 seconds earlier in the "attacking phase" can cancel out a goal but a pass that leads directly to the goal (in this case the quick restart) cannot?

Wtf?

Yep. It's a fcking awfully written rule.

And this Houston team is losing 3-1 to LA...at home...

Welp, they just scored two goals and are now tied in the 89'.

Notice there isn't a behind the scenes video from this game. Everyone wants to forget that it happened.
