Best guess is that Vieira was set to sign on the bottom line and CFG made a last-second bid to keep him. CFG really likes him, so they should want to hang onto him. If Vieira got a pay raise out of this, then more power to him.

Or it's not as close to being done as we were led to believe and could still happen in the coming days.

We have that DP salary money we’re not spending on Pirlo or Lampard anymore. Pay the guy $3M a year but put in some contingencies about winning.
