2021 Roster Discussion

If we get both of these guys, and people on this forum still complain about lack of ambition, idk what else they really want from this team.
(Now, let's see them actually bought...)

I think we need to separate the sporting department from the anger some fans feel regarding the business side of the front office. The sporting department has done a really good job over the last 4-5 years, while the business side has been frustrating for some fans to deal with. And I think some of that frustration has been leaking over unfairly to the sporting side.

everyone i mention is a piece. However, we need someone in that striker role/ striker that can hold ball as others make runs/ is a threat. Heber was kinda starting to be that but his injuries took him down. Thiago may be that but we have yet to see how he even plays with us.
If Taty is Zardes, then we need three new players around and behind him. I don’t think we can continue to assume Maxi is a top level guy anymore.

what if CFG buys and loans here?

thats why they getting this young brazilian plus potentially santi, and well see what thiago is exactly ( winger/ hold up striker). Its maxi's last year, at this rate what ever we can get out of him this year is a plus.

I'm talking about on the sporting side specifically, yeah.

When does their season end already?
So the 2020 Uruguayan Primera Division season ended on April 7. The new season began May 15. According to ESPN, Torque played Primera Division games on March 29 and then again on May 15. In between they have been playing CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana games.

If he's coming, and the weird Suits cake suggests he is, I cannot think of a valid reason why he was not signed soon after April 7 and started the visa process. And how the hell are there people who check social media for cake photos but don't bother looking this stuff up? And do Tolleson, Joy, Crooks or Abramowitz ever bother to look at stuff like this? Why the hell has there been no announcement when the Torque season ended 5-6 weeks ago and why have exactly 0% of the people who cover the club for a living noticed this?

yea its a weird situation. The previous tournament ended April 7th but he was still registered as a Nacional player for the tournament, even thought he was already part of Torque he was not able to play for Torque until May due to some weird rule that prevented him to play, made him inactive ( there were like two tournaments happening at the same time). He was training already with Torque since March i think.

Initially he was set to play in torque until the summer where CFG decided where he would go, either nycfc or girona (according to Uruguay news outlets). I am assuming CFG still has that Girona option open in case they get promoted so he can still go there should they see he is ready to try la liga level.

The Blue Balls guys have been all over the Santi Rodriguez stuff in their podcast, but I don't think a whole ton out in "print" (for them, tweets). Trey watches the Torque matches and has been keeping a very close eye on Santi.

Girona's season ends May 30, but if they finish in spots 3-6 there is a playoff for the last promotion spot. That's probably at least 3 more weeks which puts things in late June. Then add 4-8 weeks for visas and possibly an extra 1-2 weeks to make a deal to sign Plan B if Girona is promoted and Santo goes to Spain and we might not get someone in that spot until easily August and worst case but plausibly September.

The cake is a lie.

Rodriguez played in the first game of the new season that started on May 15. But sure, we're getting him once the Torque season ends. There's a cake after all. This new season ends in 2022 by the way.

according to this old article, he's expected to join us JULY 1. So, if it's a good month and a half away, I guess there's no harm in letting him play to keep up his fitness. Of course, if the club were being proactive, they'd be starting the visa procedures now.

The point is why July 1 when the MLS window is open now and his season ended in April. Also the window is closed on July 1 so that article is unreliable at best. He can join from now until June 1, or after July 7. He cannot join us July 1.

I don't think there is any exactness to the dates. Probably meant he is expecting to join in July.

Why not now? To piggy back on another discussion somewhere on this forum, maybe it's because Medina is still a DP and if we are bringing in Santi as a DP as well, we need to get Medina's status sorted first. I have no idea how Mitri's loaning is effecting our DP requirements though his loan should be opening up a spot as well, if I understood all the discussion when that all happened. If this new brazilian winger we're signing is another u-22 initiative signing, then maybe there's a lot of red tape and juggling to be done to get all that sorted out and legal under the rules?

How does that change anything? They are still spending boatloads of money for us. That's a paper move with no discernible difference to our on-field prospects.

because if it is a CFG/Man City buy then the player really isn’t for us, is he? I’dlove Herrera or Angelino right now. But those players at 19 are not what they are now in their prime.
