2021 Roster Discussion

because if it is a CFG/Man City buy then the player really isn’t for us, is he? I’dlove Herrera or Angelino right now. But those players at 19 are not what they are now in their prime.

None of the young players we are picking up right now are going to spend their entire careers here. MLS is a selling league now -- and the best way to continue getting players like this is by developing them so they can be sold at profit to Europe. A player we can sell in 2 years is a job well done by NYCFC.

what if you get Angelino again for one or two years
Angelino now, yes.

2015 Angelino, no. He obviously showed flashes and deserved the PT he got on that team. But I don't think 2015 Angelino is good enough to get minutes on this team, even off the bench.

disagree. CFG has more incentive to sell a young player than NYCFC.
If CFG owned Almiron, they would have sold him a year earlier. Atlanta doesn’t win MLS Cup without Almiron.

Remember when Frank Lampard was coming to start the season? If it’s a CFG loan, the CFG interests Will always come before ours.

exactly. He came here to get minutes that ended up helping CFG. Why would I want a player like that again? Moreover, why would I want CFG telling me a player they bought for $12 million for themselves is an example of their commitment to NYCFC

he was not terrible though, not the level he probably is now in germany but i didnt mind if he would of still been improving.

what if this new kid is Angelino all over again and we get the potential and none of the finished product

I don't care if we buy Talles Magno or if it's a MC buy/loan, except to the extent we lose out on added GAM from potential ell on profit. There's no way CFG can make that up. But otherwise, our interest and CFGs can be aligned, and it's not clear that they would not be aligned here.

But I care very much when our player acquisitions are made or deferred for the benefit of CFG as a whole with no corresponding benefit to us, which is what might be happening with Santiago Rodriguez. There is a solid chance Fantazma Fantazma is correct when he says it's all on hold to see if Girona is promoted. If so, then Santi would rather go to Girona, Torque would rather he go to Girona and Girona would rather have him, and CFG would rather he go to Girona, but all only if Girona is promoted. Which they're all entitled to do but our front office should not put our acquisition plans on hold when the window is open and leagues all over the world are finishing up and players are available. From everything I've read and seen he's a fine player but he's not so good that it's worth waiting a few more months to get him instead of someone else given the widow dates and visa issues.

Unless Fantazma Fantazma is wrong and the cake is right, this stinks.

So back to Talles Magno, the story is apparently hes a kid who had some flashes of talent but is extremely immature and injury prone?

so now the plan is to fly him thousands of miles away to a new club, new language, when he probably is still susceptible to injury? Anyone else see the train wreck coming?

NYCFC should chain Talles to James Sands to keep him in check off the field and maybe there is a chance.

What if Sands is tempted by Talles and leaves the Jedi for the dark side?

i mean its no different than what we doing now with thiago, acevedo, gloster, Jasson, talles magno and santi ( if they come here). Its the "potential" they are going with these signings.

yea he allegedly went to beach parties when he was told not to in 2020 in all of the pandemic and apparently got covid as a result ( the article says he got it twice but not sure when the other time was). He got in the first team in 16 and in rio with a popular team and making probably ok to good money, that shit gets to your head. Maybe Heber can get him to calm down and focus, papa heber if you will. Apparently he follows the kid on instagram.

yes injuries are the big reason that interest died out, and with our bad track record of injuries ( which seems bad this year compared to other years, even players that dont normally get hurt are hurt, something just feels that is wrong) does not help. on the flip side injured players is something the FO loves to do i mean zelalem got a freaking extension and played in just one official game.

we are at the mercy of CFG like always been when it comes to transfers. im just speculating on the whole girona promotion stuff. and torque is the testing ground these months to see what level hes fit for, girona or us.

i haven't done any research myself, but I would hardly say one injury is injury prone? He got covid a few times, which points to disiciplinary/immaturity, but he's a kid after all. New language here, but he'll be surrounded by compatriots Heber and Thiago and even Parks can speak portuguese. He'll be fine. He just needs to grow up and hopefully have someone older on the team to mentor him and guide him into an elite scoring/assist machine.

I'm saying I would want a player like Angelino that provided benefit to our club as he did in 2015. I'm also saying that Angelino, at his level of play in 2015, isn't good enough for us now.

I think he was of great value to us in 2015. If there was a guy on MCFC's roster (youth or senior) that they want to give minutes for him develop, and that guy can come to our team and be an upgrade at a position for us, I'm all for it. Whether or not he leaves half a season or a full season later.

NYCFC is pleased to welcome Talles Magno, who will be wearing the #69.
