2021 Roster Discussion

Yeah I had never podcast-ed before so I just tried the first thing that popped up lol. After that I listened to Blue city radio and enjoyed that quality more!

like if you like people just talking random stuff and messing around then nycfc forever is for you. I think they got ethan white once to talk about the derby and behind the scenes stuff that happen when PV was here but i never got a chance to hear it.

blue city radio is more serious and journalist type podcast, and they started to get player interviews which is good to see since I have met the host michael, good guy.

Apparently I’m the only person who thinks it matters that the window closed 3 days ago.

If they did sign him and register the transfer last Monday, why would they wait a week to announce it? And what are the odds that nobody at MLS or the agency that registers international transfers leaks it?

Maybe I’ll be as wrong about this as I was about the visa issue, but I just don’t see the logic.

MLS quarantine? show him off when the players come back next week? It looks like they all are on vacation this week.

That's my theory, yes.

Realistically, a number of people seem to think he's in NY, and he might very well be. Plus there's all the incidental social media stuff congratulating him on moving to NYCFC. Circumstantial evidence says he's coming here, probably. My main issue is the timing given they did not announce before the window closed, or very soon thereafter. Even more so because if he is coming it has been in the works for months. Usually when things get announced after a window closes it is because it was hastily put together at the last minute and the parties wait to be sure everything is in place and the transfer papers were received by the governing bodies in time, and physicals are passed, etc. We should not have those issues here given this has been telegraphed since before Halloween.

Is it really that terrible that they didn't announce him during the window or shortly thereafter?

We've had visa delays for two players and santi is probably not any different. We don't know exactly when Talles started his visa process but when he was announced, he was solo training and doing his quarantine the same day or day after (I don't remember which). Everything could be settled on the deal and the visa may still be the hold up. Yes, they could definitely just announce the signing and say he'll join the team once his visa is issued, but perhaps they are just delaying until the visa is issued before announcing after months of seeing fans ask "WHERE IS X?? What's taking so long?" for malte and thiago.

As long as he's joining us this summer, I'm not sweating it. He's also not a superstar game changer in my mind, so even if this is all going to disappear I won't be that upset either as long as the club is still looking for a maxi replacement.

Where do you get terrible? Sincerely, I want you to point out my use of the word or a reasonable synonym for terrible.
I think it makes no sense, which is why I think it is not what is happening, though I've also acknowledged I might be wrong. I've been pretty clear about that.

Your post, to me, came off as upset that they didn't announce a signing during the window. Guess not. :)

My guess is that they will wait for July, giving him some rest so he can go until November.
Why they couldn't announce it now? I guess maybe cap shenanigans with pro-rating transfer fees/salary.
I certainly haven't kept up on the ever changing complexities of MLS salary and roster rules lately, so my guess is just that.

I think there might be some truth to this. They could have registered him with MLS in time and are waiting to make public announcements until he's available. Seems like that's what they did with Magno, so maybe in order to avoid silliness from the fans, they're trying to do this for all the midseason signings. We already think we know he's coming unless something seriously fell through, so it's not like the announcement does anything except for confirm that we're waiting another month for the Visa.

It's possible that the Club has some roster management issues to work through and so will bring him in during the next transfer window, which is a short delay this season.
I've been thinking this is the most likely explanation, and I think next window becomes more likely as we get further and further past the closing last week. Roster issues is my guess, possibly in concert with buying down Medina. Or waiting to see what else is available and figuring out whether to make Rodriguez U22 or DP. He turns 22 next January and there is no consensus as to what slot he will go into. Last possibility is the Girona option. They made the La Liga promotion playoff final which is played June 13 and 20. I just have trouble wrapping my head around the idea that he's good enough for La Liga but CFG let's us have him if Girona fails.

From training pics on IG, looks like Heber is training with the team again! Love to see it! Let's hope he regains his 2019 form and Talles-Thiago tear things up. Brazilian Trident leading the way to an MLS cup would be great to see.
