2023 Schedule Thread

It’s counterproductive, to me, to have no afternoon starts, but it’s Apple’s league now.

The league all-but disallowed day games during the heat of the summer, so the only change is no more day games in March, April, and September. I personally prefer night games -- especially in the summer.

Doesn't look like it -- looks like FOX/FS1 games are already indicated on MLS's website. Looks like only one game on TV for NYCFC this season.

Funny little glitch: The MLS website has the TBD games as Friday instead of Saturday. They're Saturday as per the image NYCFC released, but since the time is TBD, something glitched on the league website.
Well, there are 5 games that have "TBD" as the time.

For the first game, FOX has a game on that Saturday. For the other 4 games, they do not. The second one is on a FIFA International Break, so there are only 6 games. The last one is Decision Day, and the MLS site actually has us playing at 7:30, so who knows.

That said, all the other games on those weekends show the usual Saturday Night starting time, and I couldn't find any other teams hosting any games with a TBD time (or that weird Friday night time). So, it looks like it's probably a baseball issue.

Trying to figure out what the best game is for the summer 3-day weekend away....

Last year's Montreal game stuck out like a sore thumb. This year's options are to repeat Montreal, Cincy, Philly, or Columbus. Not as exciting!
Yeah, I really wanted to do Montreal last year, but it didn't come together. Maybe this year.

Atlanta looked good for this summer, but then I saw that it's a Wednesday game.

Agreed. Even NBA & NHL (which i consider night leagues) understand the importance of some afternoon games on the weekends. Speaking of which, I want MLS to figure out an equivalent to NHL Outdoor Game, NBA Christmas Day Games, NFL International Games., MLB Field of Dreams Game. I’m not sure what that is though, but it should be on July 4th. Maybe a match in Manaus 😂

Hadnt consider Sabbath. Wasn’t trying to be culturally insensitive. Sorry about that.

Seems like a pretty big omission then on a league level.

Ah, yeah don't be sorry, I don't really mind. However that's really not such a big deal in the grand scheme of fans around the country since we're talking about a problem that affects a really small small percentage of people that watch MLS. They can't cater to everyone.

I was just looking at that Sept. 23 game -- Did Citi Field book a concert for that weekend? The Mets are on the road, and not back until Tuesday. Unless there's another event there that day, there's no reason Citi wouldn't be available.

As expected, taking a month off midseason for the Leagues Cup means playing during international breaks. NYCFC has six games during the breaks, as below.

2023 International Break DatesGames During
March 20-281
June 12-201
June 26-July 164
Sep 4-120
Oct 9-170
Nov 13-210? - Playoffs
Total6

There's also a couple that fall within a day and we're seen players return late sometimes, mostly I believe from CONMEBOL.

Consistency is good because it means everyone knows what time it's going to be, makes it easy to plan.

Consistency is bad because it gives ZERO flexibility for anyone that gets screwed over by whatever decision was made, and there are always going to be those people. They should stick to the fri/sat/sun system, imo. Give every team a few fridays, then split between sat and sun. (and tues/wed where applicable).
Both true. And there is a middle way. A couple of games each week at an earlier time, which are rotated around the various teams. NFL is consistently at 1pm and 4:15pm ET. But there are a few games at night on Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays, and everyone knows to look for those too.

The Rolling Loud Festival was held that weekend in 2022. So it’s probably going to be there in 2023. They use the parking lots, so it would still mean the venue is unavailable.

Agreed that the complete uniformity of days and start times is not ideal. Everyone points to the CFB and NFL as models, but they both have multiple game time slots on their respective days. For the NFL it's Sundays at 1pm, 4pm, and 8;20pm then Monday night and Thursday night.
Give every team a few fridays,
I still miss the Univision Friday Night Futbol from 2015-16 (roughly). Even with those terrible announcers, and even though it was not usually a marquee matchup, it was nice knowing that every Friday night there was a national MLS game to watch. Uniform predicable game times does not need every game on the same day at the same 2 times (7:30pm Eastern or Pacific), one of which is close to useless for 50% of the population. We don't even have a game every Wednesday. They're just shoving games into occasional Wednesdays because there are not enough Saturdays. So predictability is non-existent. Is there a game any given Wednesday? Don't know until you check the schedule. Make it Wednesday Night Soccerin' Time.

I know its too early to post but I just came across this, but for the Dallas Game on the 22nf of April. there will be no 7 train . The 7 will not run between Queensboro Plaza and 34th Street-Hudson Yards starting the weekend of Feb. 4; that weekend, service will be shuttered from 12:15 am Saturday, Feb. 4 to 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6. The “International Express” will also shutter from 3:45 am Saturday to 10 pm Sunday on the weekends of Feb. 11, Feb. 25, March 11, March 25, and April 22.

They usually run a bus in its place when that happens. But still plenty of time to start a 4/22 carpool/tailgate thread ;)

Ok, so you take the N, W, E or F from Manhattan and transfer to the 7 while in Queens.
