Another game where it felt like there was no risk of losing, zero. We don’t even have to play that well, and it can be against the best team in the West who is also undefeated.

Nice to see the team rebound so strongly from last week. The first goal showed a willingness to go forward with persistence that was missing on the west coast.

Chose to watch this one from home. A bit bummed to not have been there for #400, but it was a lot easier to enjoy seeing Villa score #401 in response to the yellow with replays.

Heard that chant a few times on the broadcast as well, frustratingly.

I think that it's because he's one of few players who hasn't progressed. If anything, he's worse than last year, yet he seems / seemed to have the tools to kick on. Combine that with comments he makes to the press that would imply that he's not completely focused on being here, and I don't think the criticism is all that surprising.

Unfortunately, while Ofori is neater on the ball, he doesn't provide anywhere near as much defensive disruption, so it's a frustrating situation.

Nailed it. He seems totally complacent and wholly disinterested in being here. ANYONE with that attitude can FRO. Go ride the bench in another league.

I was getting a drink at the bar behind 125 just before warmups, and a man came up for a refill and commented that I had a Villa jersey on and seemed frustrated that a lot of people had Villa’s jersey. Turns out it was Ibeagha’s father. (I caught a glimpse of his license when he was carded and he was legit.) My girlfriend, the bartender and I were genuinely excited to meet him, and were very complementary of his son. Congratulating him on starting tonight. He seemed either very humble or unimpressed. He came up from Houston and this is the first time he saw his son play Yankee Stadium. He has another son who plays for Rayo OKC.

I feel like I am taking crazy pills when I see this opinion so prevalent. If he was wholly disinterested in being here do you think he'd commit the most fouls in the league and in turn also be the most fouled? He is literally in on every play and makes our team better, even if at times his passing is lackadaisical. He was also inches away from having a goal yesterday, whether it was that acrobatic header he had or the follow up on one of the deflections that was in turn deflected out for a corner.

TL;DR: Herrera is not a perfect player by any means, but calling him disinterested is not fair.

Agreed. All we have to go on is one possibly out of context quote. Even not trying to score, he laid himself out to head a ball midfield and hit the ground hard after for his efforts. He give his all to the team. Now his overall skill and decision making, that's up for debate. But I'm not going to question his heart.

You definitely aren't taking crazy pills.

I don't know how other people feel about him but for me, it's about the feeling. We get nothing out of him outside of the pitch. That is where we as fans get to learn a bit about the whole person. I don't need him to be a media darling but there is nothing else to attach to outside of game days. In my mind, that's where he could show his affinity for this club experience.

We've (correctly) benefited from VAR more than any team in MLS.

We'd have 6 video reviews in our history. These are plays where the referee went over to the video monitor himself to review the play rather than solely relying on the VAR...

2017 vs. Columbus: VAR called a penalty for NYCFC where Moralez was fouled in the box. Villa missed the penalty.
2017 at Columbus (Playoffs): VAR called a red card for violent conduct on Alex Callens.
2018 at SKC: VAR overturned a penalty where Chanot cleanly tackled SKC in the box.
2018 at SKC: VAR called a red card for Chanot on a DOGSO outside the 18 yard box.
2018 at Atlanta: VAR overturned a goal for Atlanta due to goalkeeper interference by Josef Martinez.
2018 vs. Dallas: VAR called a penalty for NYCFC where Tinnerholm shot a ball that deflected off the Dallas player's arm. Villa converted the penalty.

So I count 4 for us, 2 against us.

Oh, and one other thing, Elfath still sucks. Yeah, he made the right call on VAR (still took way too long though) but his calling of a game is still atrocious.

Please no more Elfath or Crapman going forward.

Does anyone who watched on TV have any insight into how it could possibly have taken that long to make a decision? Like, you have a pretty short decision tree:
Did the ball contact the player on the "hand" (arm is inclusive)? Y/N
If Yes, did the player place his "hand" in such a way as to advantage himself*? Y/N
If Yes, then Foul.
If Foul, is it in the box? Y/N
If Yes, then Penalty.
__
*This is how I concatenate all the bullshit about "unnatural position" and "make himself bigger" and whatever. What is obviously meant is: "did the handball constitute an advantage to the player?"
