Matarrita Deal Finalized?

Can anyone answer this question regarding sell-on clauses? Does that just pertain to the contract that he has with NYCFC now? For example, if this contract ran out and we resigned him to a new one, then sold him; would the sell-on clause still be in effect?

Or does this vary from clause to clause and we don't know those details yet?

Hard to say, but it depends. Outside of the US, if we ran down his contract until it fully expired and then resigned him then I'd say yes, the sell-on clause expires. However, in the US, with the whole "retaining the rights of players/re-entry draft" stuff meaning it's far less of a risk to let a player's deal end before offering a new contract, I'd be hesitant to say the same applies.

Not a valid tweet id.

He has since deleted the tweet but I replied to it previously saying "Bienvenido a NYCFC" and he liked my tweet. Curious why he deleted his tweet confirming the transfer.

This makes Kreis's "Wingert is a player to build around" comments even more hilarious. He was fuckin delusional. Wingert is a local and, from what I can tell, a great guy - but he's not getting any younger... or better.
Probably knew that he was on the way out, but still... Or maybe it was his idea of a joke.

I would imagine it relates to this contract. So if he see's his contract out and resigns, then there will be no sell on clause.

I thought Alajuelense had already announced it though -- must have dreamed that one

S0uth American teams are notorious for announcing signings far too early. They frequently take the point at which a transfer fee is agreed to be the point at which they should announce a deal. I've seen a number of "transfers" fall through after a South American club has confirmed the deal, precisely because they didn't actually wait for the player to agree terms with his new club/pass his medical/sign off on the deal.

It's a bit stupid really - I generally take it to be either an example of social media gone mad - the need to make everything public - or them wanting to be able to use the announcement as leverage with the buying club if necessary.

Well, it is a good thing then that his club is from Central America, not South America ;):p
