The rule for PV's team so far appears to be "no goals until the final 15 minutes of a game".

I just feel sorry for anyone who went to for a bathroom break in the 88th minute...

Discuss away.

With the min they got the last two games you can't say PV didn't give both Mullins and Poku a chance to prove themselves.

1. We score when we want.
2. I'm (still) with Eirik! The first goal was a errant pass by Pirlo. We didn't have our top CBs on the field for that second goal, also wind.

Have to remember he doesn't know these guys. At all. Except Pirlo and Lampard of course.

Im happy he is testing the waters now. Kreis changed the lineups for a good part of the season and that was extremely frustrating. Test & Tune , prior to the race ! You rather him play the same squad and blind fire subs when injuries occur or regular match subs are needed ? Its all about slotting players who can adapt to work properly and efficiently with each other. Thats what pre season is for. Building chem is key. I trust PV fully. His ability to build a confident player is amazing. All of the young boys who have been called up to the first team for MCFC have proven that they were taught correctly. Lets hope that can work here in the states.

I think it's less an interest in developing them and more about needing to know who he can trust. Depressingly, right now the answer is "not that many". We still have to be carried by our best players.

I agree and I think it's smart. He needs to know who can cover when people are hurt or gone on national team duty. How is he supposed to know if Lopez or Bravo come off the bench day 1 in Chicago if we have a one goal lead and Pirlo needs to be subbed for more defensive support? How does he know if Lampard can't go for the Chicago game if he's going with TMAC or Poku or Bravo or Lopez? Compared to the last coach I see it as a very positive sign that every player is getting a chance to earn a spot in the line up.

I do understand that the starters need time and I think we will see it this weekend for almost the full 90'. This will give them a full game and then a week to rest before rolling it back against Chicago.

Preseason games mean nothing. Just stay healthy, get fit for the season and practice defensive and offensive schemes/positioning during practice.

Goal this year is playoffs!

And you weren't even paid over a mil to understand something so obvious.

All of that is fine if you have an established team that has played together. We do not. New formation. Many new players. Who cares what the trialists can do? Who cares about a three man back line. You have wasted time to let brillant play with his partner. Wasted time to let mix play with pirlo etc

So, for those who watched, how did we end up conceding twice at the end? Who was in on defense?
First goal Pirlo made a hard back pass to Lurch, who couldn't control it and a striker pounced. I'd split the responsibility between the two, maybe lean to Pirlo because perfect touch passes should be his thing. OTOH, controlling any back pass has to be every keeper's thing.
Second goal was off a corner. Lurch ran into a crowd to try to grab the initial kick but got nowhere near it due to said crowd. Rebound went into a pretty empty net when Lurch couldn't get back.
