Thinking about getting a vest for my workout averse wife also. She does go on semi-regular 1.5 mile walks. She asked about borrowing my ruck but then shied away. I think she might like a vest better.
Good article about pros and cons of rucks vs weighted vests. I'm partial to the ruck for the core/lower back benefits discussed in the article. I definitely feel the core engagement during a ruck. But I'm also in the camp of do whatever works for you.
Re your suicide vest comment, the article notes that many weighted vests look similar to bulletproof vests, and some people are uncomfortable walking around looking like they are in an active shooter drill.

Saw this on reddit today:
"Get 6 bricks, two rolls of duck tape and stack and wrap them in 2x3 config. Wrap these in a towel or two for padding and put in any backpack; I started with a Dakine skate bag just cause it had a little more padding on the rear and was very square. This will be roughly 26#s.
Go walk."
It's the ruck version of "here are three chords, now form a band."

Me, I got one of the more expensive rucks out there, but I'm old and will pay to be more comfortable.
For me the suicide vest comment is mostly about white privilege. I don’t worry about getting cops called on me. But I think I would if I wasn’t pasty white.

Having spent a few months carrying a backpack with towel wrapped weights I can say that the issue there is the straps. It gets painful in the shoulders really quickly.

Interesting article. I’m a guy with 4 different types of barbell in my home gym (5 if you count the EZ curl bar). Maybe I’m the proverbial fool getting parted with his money, but this makes me want to double up on this and get a ruck too for comparison. I typically make one significant fitness purchase every year - still way cheaper than a gym membership. Maybe this year I’ll get a ruck.

Curious if you are willing to share - which ruck did you settle on?

GoRuck 4.0. I fall in the height overlap between the 20 and 25 Liter models, and got the 20L. It fits me fine. If you need plates, you don't have to buy them from the bag company. GoRuck's bags are very high quality, but plates are plates as long as they fit. No need to pay a premium. Look at Yes4All on Amazon.
I can’t find what this references. Anyone?

More Mamet on Broadway: Glengarry Glen Ross March April May. Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, Bill Burr, Michael McKean, Donald Webber Jr.

Nobody’s playing the Alec Baldwin role because that was a movie creation.

And name me another actor that would play the role on Broadway that could nail the always be closing monologue?

This thread always makes me think of this:

Fun fact: I was on that show, not only in the audience but as a contestant. The game where there are three kids and three parents and you have to match them. I somehow got all three wrong. And yet still walked out of there with a giant Batcave playset and other toys and candy that filled two shopping bags. And I earned it--it was grueling, hours and hours of shooting.

I love how this club's branding is a weird amalgamation of Yankees and Mets branding and colors. Always found it hilarious and I hope it stays for good even when we move into our own stadium.

Thanks, man.

What a wild ride. 4 times they came back from substantial 2nd half deficits. A tough gritty team. Not a single player was a Top 100 recruit out of high school.

Here is the raw video from the basketball arena on campus, which was at capacity for a watch party.

This is awesome. A 2023 psychology paper looks at all the different cognitive biases that the research has identified and concludes that almost all are simply variants of confirmation bias. It then suggests that the field would be better served by consolidating those separate bias categories under the confirmation bias umbrella.

Ironically, the reason it's awesome is it basically confirms an elemental foundation of my world view.

Question. What were the researchers trying to discover when they started the research project?

I don't think it worked that way. I think it was an idea developed while reviewing and synthesizing other research studies.
Which is to say, yes, the thesis itself could be born of confirmation bias. Maybe they found what they wanted to find.
