2021 Roster Discussion

If he had reasonable wage demands I'd unironically like to have him. Johnson's had a pretty notable dropoff in the last 2 years and we clearly don't have a reliable backup option. Coming here to the US would get him out of the European spotlight and hopefully give him a chance to either play out his career here or, if he wants, recharge and get back into European soccer.

Summer transfer window closes in less than one week on August 5, next Thursday. There has been no rumors or anything. This might be the club roster for the rest of the year, plus maybe Heber.
Also, FWIW, Medina is still listed as a DP, though Roberto Abramowitz says he is not.

I think he is. I think maybe they stood ready to buy him down if need be, but it didn't happen.

Fuck that DLNewRoc guy.

Ronny barely played him before.. he'll barely get time now. lol. how long is his contract? he came in 2019 so it should be over after this year if it's a 3 year contract?

google said the loan was until january 2022. guess that means his contract with us is longer than that? maybe 4 years? original signing announcement just said multi-year.

Curious as to how that is allowed. Not saying it’s not, but that’s the kinda stuff that can saddle the club that loans a player out.

Also could be specific to certain loan terms to allow the loanee team to cancel, so without specifics hard to say.

The club announcement of the loan says the same about Jan 2022 and also says the Saudi club has an option to buy at loan end. Maybe NYCFC was hoping for a fee?
Now we’re stuck with him. You do him a favor and let him go midseason for zero return and he does so poorly the other club just cuts him and we have to take him back after we finally replace him almost a year later? And this blocks us signing a newer better DP. This is a small scale fiasco if true. Poorly done by him and the club. Damn but this club and DPs.

Also we have to use up GAM/TAM to buy down Medina if he returns. At least if we didn’t sign a new DP we could have kept the Garber bucks for 2022.

I figure if I bitch about this enough he’ll score the winning goal in MLS Cup so I look like an idiot.

He's depth, and as we all know, with the condensed schedule, we're going to need that depth. Even if he can give us 20-30 minutes every couple matches and give our regulars some rest, that's an important role. I just worry that he's going to come in with a chip on his shoulder and mess up what seems like a cohesive squad.

He's depth & a DP spot, no? Big difference.
