2021 Roster Discussion

Don't look now, but James fucking Sands is starting for the US in a cup final against our most bitter of rivals Mexico.

All the best out there James, and I know I can speak for the entire forum when I say, go kick some ass and prove to Europe that you deserve that transfer!

The club announcement of the loan says the same about Jan 2022 and also says the Saudi club has an option to buy at loan end. Maybe NYCFC was hoping for a fee?
Now we’re stuck with him. You do him a favor and let him go midseason for zero return and he does so poorly the other club just cuts him and we have to take him back after we finally replace him almost a year later? And this blocks us signing a newer better DP. This is a small scale fiasco if true. Poorly done by him and the club. Damn but this club and DPs.
My main point is, and maybe this is something I don’t fully understand about loan contracts, is what guarantee was there to take him off our books?

If they want to cut him, are they still responsible for whatever portion of salary they agreed to? The club that loans a player out is doing so partly to ensure they aren’t paying those wages. For the other club to just cut the player and return him seems like it shouldn’t happen without some form of financial repercussions.

Then again, I’m sure there can be situations where it’s written into the loan language one way or another.

I personally think if they are cutting Mitrita and returning him to us, they should be responsible for his salary and he ends up being, in essence, a $0 salary cap to us (assuming they were taking on his full salary). But I also don’t know the terms of the loan and how this works

I share your understanding of how it usually works, but if we take the second hand, unsourced tweet seriously, it says the Saudi club has or soon will terminate his contract and want to open an international slot. Maybe they can do that but still have to pay all our part of his salary under the deal with NYC? If so is he not a DP, at least this year?
Finally i presume taking him back if he is cut is not subject to the transfer window so does not have to happen by Thursday.

Mitrita is a good player. He wanted to be closer to family, no harm in that. But he's a good player and the more talent we have, the better. There are sure to be injuries and we will have to rotate the squad. The more talent the better.

he's a good player if he's motivated. but if he's not, it's hard to really enjoy him when we have a player like thiago who plays both sides of the ball with so much energy and enthusiasm. more talent is always good, but i don't think we should be renewing his contract.

If he comes back, he’s going to have to fight for his playing time. That’s not a bad thing.

The guy had moments of brilliance for us. Let’s not forget the hat trick against Atlanta. When he’s on, he’s terrific.

Like ZYanks said… the more talent the better.

I don't want to provide any spoilers but I'm seeing some parallels with Mitrita and season 2 of Ted Lasso

You mean the guy who our dumb coach doesn’t like to start?

i had another reply here, but i just realized you were referring to thiago. he did start 2 games already since coming. i think that's pretty good. he's still getting used to the league, fitness, etc. give it some time.

I'm too tired to know what it means if you Google news search there seems to be interest in Romania for Mitri.

Also if NYCFC had a loan deal that the other team could terminate, it would have been negligent considering the DP and international slot involved.

Even if this report is true, why couldn't we just send him back out on loan somewhere else?

I think the team was comfortable with the DP slot risk knowing that they had the ability to buy down Medina if necessary. And you can always buy a international slot. Might pay a bit of a duress price, but it will always get done.
