its all a risk across the board, its just that our risks tend to be "cheaper" than others. so its not seen as an impact signing. I will say though that this is the first young signing that has hype even from other league fans ( based on reddit/ twitter comments), even thought he has injury/ discipline issues.
he can still flop massively, obviously but this is the first signing this year that says yea thats a real YDP signing.

indeed. really hope he and thiago really mesh well with our other attackers. sometimes it's not about the big name, but the overall chemistry of the team. i think our team has pretty good chemistry overall, but having really good chemistry in the attacking third has been something we've been lacking since heber got injured.
hopefully they all really get along and feed off each other like they're playing some pick up games in the park. that's the kind of mindset that results in tons of creativity.
I agree he needs to prove his worth. Kid came here for a club record transfer fee, they better not miss on a move like that.
This might surprise more than just you:
Since Heber was injured against Toronto, NYCFC has played 15 regular season games. In that time they have scored 37 goals, almost 2.5 per game. They have generated 31.51 xG. Both lead the league.
And they did it without Heber and also without Mitrita for 13 of those games.
I am not suggesting cause and effect but this team got much better, especially on offense, around the time it lost both of those guys, and it has carried through to this year.
ETA: Granted that this year 5 of the goals came against Cincinnati. But it's also worth noting the team has not been shut out once since Heber's injury.
Double ETA: The team also was without Maxi for 7 of those 15 games.

thing is it doesn't feel that way. how many times in past two years we have said that we need an all out striker or finisher because chances are created but no one can finish them.
Almost true. Tigres shut us out, sadly. But against MLS opponents, yes, you are correct.
I still think we will be better with Heber back. I think that Taty and Medina both have stepped up their game to make up for Heber's injury and Mitri's departure. With the return of Heber, we will only get better. If Talles and Thiago can add to that, our attack will be one of the most dangerous in the league.

I think this is one of those things that every fan base says about their own team.
i dont know i mean when vela is not injured or josef, or currently seattle they score and win. there does not seem to be the vibe that they will just create and not score. at least with us its more like: i know they will get chances, but are they going to score?
I want to like this 100 times. Thank you for saying what I want to say but without my Schtick. Take the Brazilian youth movement money and go get a proven finisher.
I worry that our idea on not missing and their idea on not missing are wildly different
thing is are there proven strikers left? the position itself is fading really. Everyone wants to be false 9 etc. you have to look to someone who plays in europe though but the options are slim and honestly it also depends if they want to come to MLS.
i mean if we got chicharito who is a striker in the box people would be against it massively since the dude was not in form prior to this year. so i dont even know who to target. Is Lewandowski really wanting to come to MLS and not just try to retire in bayern/ or go back to Poland? Mandžukić was a good option like three years ago. Suarez went to atletico even though he says he had interesting proposal from MLS.
side note: josef was riding the bench in torino so not sure if he counted as a "proven striker"
If you open the checkbook, you could have almost anyone you want of a certain age. Cavani. Suarez. Aguerro. Benzema. All of these guys are either out of contract or about to be out of contract.
I’m not saying any of all of these guys make sense but if you’re going to spend the money, there is an alternative. We’re obviously just a business and not a football club. Unlike Man City
The other end of this - if you trust what the xG stats tell you, it seems like we should be just about the best team in MLS. So there’s an argument that we’re close. Close teams shouldn’t shoot their load on 18 year old prospects.
NYCFC's longest regular season streak without suffering a clean sheet, including straddling seasons, is 20 in 2017. We were shutout Game 1 (March 5 at Orlando) and not again until game 22 July 30 at Toronto. In between they scored 40 goals in 20 games and earned 37 points 1.85 PPG.
In the current 15 game streak the club is getting 2.0 PPG to go with the almost 2.5 goals/game.
but thats the thing, do they want to come? like i said suarez mentioned a couple of times that he got MLS offers but in the end he didnt take them. Cavani preferred Man U for another year. Aguero is going to Barcelona, Benzema i feel will stay in RM especially now that he got called up to France. so all those top level elite players will prefer going elsewhere in europe because there is a market still for them no matter what the MLS money is.
you have to look a tier below that and for pure effective strikers i dont think there are many options. anyone else would be considered a risk.
not on a DP contract though i dont know when he last played a full 90 or even a game since hes injured and currently not on a team.
