2022 Roster Discussion

NFW. A step down in league. He'd be a fool to do this.
It would mean Europa League. And depending on if he gets into the first team, could mean a place in CL qualification for next season.

...Compared to a lower team in a bigger league where he might not get noticed, he might take it as a chance to have european competition almost entirely guaranteed.

The league itself is a lateral step though.

SPL is better today than it was 5-10 years ago. He’ll make more money. It’s a physical league (has been a knock on him). It’s out of his comfort zone. Yes, a lateral move day right day BUT there is European football, he’ll be more on the radar in England and the experience is uncomfortable

And he should be able to get playing time almost immediately.

As you said, definitely a lateral move right now, but a much better launch pad.

Anyone figure out SPL transfers to premier league, Bundesliga etc. in the past year? Curious how many more players have made jump to top leagues from SPL compared to MLS in 2021.

Clubs are only really looking at Rangers or Celtic players , the up and coming good players in the other SPL teams tend to get snapped up by 1 of these 2 before moving to another league

Much like the connections with Delia and CFG, the Van Bronckhorst connection here makes too much sense. And now that we know a loan with an option to buy, the smoke from earlier this month makes more sense.

But how does that help us?
it doesnt, it just shows how the FO is more player friendly and other players are ok to coming here since they know they wont be blocked going to europe should there be true interest.
I remember the Revs blocked multiple players from moves to Europe back in the Nicol era. It took many years before they were able to sign anyone willingly. They were basically known to be on every agents sh!tlist and they were a bad team for many years with no worthwhile players.
In a vacuum, I wouldn't sell Sands for $5m (or Taty for $12m), he is probably better than (and a safer bet) whatever the average $5m replacement player will be, but I dont want to shift over to the Revs old philosophy. That is why Taty and Sands have probably played their last games with us.
