NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2019

Yeah. Almeyda has been impressive, but his system is somewhat gimmicky and appears to have been figured out.
Heath is a legit contender. Dome should get tons of credit for all of the adjustments he has made throughout the season.

I think Dome should get it because he's created a well oiled machine that can switch formation/tactics almost at a drop of a hat and execute whatever formation/tactic. Being 1st in the east and if we win MLS cup, i think he should get it hands down.

Bradley has a stacked roster and even without him, LAFC would still be very successful.

Heath deserves some credit, but they are up and down, and haven't shown they can be dominant.

Alymeda deserves to be in the running with Dome because he took the same team that finished dead last in 2018 and turned it into a real contender. They've gotten unlucky with cards and calls, but when they are on, they are pretty damn good on both sides of the ball. Even Dome recognizes them as the best team to ever visit Yankee Stadium under his tenure. even if they don't make the playoffs, i feel like it's more bad luck and a slower start to the system due to the system he wanted to implement. On the whole, SJ is the most improved team in MLS, imho.

Joe Toleson was on with Jason Davis today on USOS. The juicy stuff was on from around 12:50-1:00 if you can search for it. They discussed the NYCFC playoff stadium situation in depth. Some juicy tidbits I remember from Joe:

“I don’t get paid by the team”
“2nd or 3rd hand info tells me that the MLS office already knows that NYCFC will not be allowed to host the MLS Cup in YS”
“Why play any games in YS if they won’t let you play the playoffs there?”
“Citi has the fans closer the the field and will be a great soccer atmosphere”

Def worth a listen if you can find it.

Almeyda is this close to missing the playoffs and he’d be manager of the year?

His team has lost four straight games and finishing against Seattle and at Portland.
He has to get consideration. With just one roster change of note (adding Espinoza who is good but not a superstar) they more than doubled their point total from last year even if they lose the next 2. He took a team for whom dismal was a euphemism and made them fun. Because of the late slide I doubt he wins. I think Bradley and Dome are the Tier 1 candidates. But then I would list Almeyda and maybe Curtin. Not really anyone after that. I see people listing Heath. I guess he and Curtin have somewhat similar cases in that neither is new and managed to bring a long term project to fruition this year. But though their records are close I rate the Union more highly than Minnesota and Curtin over Heath.

Well, I guess that means the Princeton-Dartmouth game won't be moved. Damn it.

A lifetime of trolling ammunition when NYCFC wins the MLS Cup at Red Bull Arena.

Agreed. But I think we play it in Citi if we get the chance.

Idk if Joe has inside sources that have the same feelings as he does. But he was saying what’s the point of playing any regular season matches at YS if they won’t let you host the cup there? And is it worth playing in 5 Burroughs if it means playing through int breaks, weekday matches, and other issues with YS? I think he has a point with the cup. I think a split schedule with YS & Citi going forward can solve the other problems.

You may be pleased to hear that one of the dudes on the NYCFC Nation podcast said (for whatever that’s worth) in reference to all this that the team is looking at splitting regular season games between el Yankees and Citi Field going forward.

i like that doing this would give us flexibility with our schedule. but i dislike that we don't have a real "home". switching location every few games could be detrimental to our home performance. but i guess we'll see. i can also already see people showing up to the wrong stadium for a game and being completely confused.

IIRC in the last week the team has been featured in the Times, Newsday, NBCsports, among other unfamiliar spots. Some great play is adding some buzz. Imagine what a Cup would do. And imagine even bigger if the team formally announces building a half billion dollar soccer stadium in f’ng New York City. That’s everyone will know who we are buzz.

Susannah Collins attends the U.S. Open with Anton Tinnerholm.

Big Reveal - Anton's wife is expecting a little Tinnerholm in November. Tinnerboom!
I thought we knew that, no?

ETA: yes.

But baby news is always welcome even on repeat.

Nice video here from the MLS in house crew breaking down our first goal and then talking about the team. They are definitely drinking the Kool Aid right now (which actually has me a little nervous).

The funny thing about this analysis is how Doyle repeatedly mentions our "patterns". Not too long ago, he and Warshaw were saying how we had no patterns. Oh how quickly things change in the world of "pundits"

I am quite, quite nervous if we are without Heber for 90 minutes or Isi for 30 minutes in the playoffs.

I acknowledge there's an inherit bias against NYCFC from MLSsoccer.com, but I even more see an inherit bias against foreign players.

Heber had 15G/4A in 22 appearances (18 starts). Gil had 10G/14A in 34 appearances (34 starts). Gil played nearly twice the amount of minutes compared to Heber.

Why isn't Chanot in the top 2? Robinson, really? His own goal cost Atlanta a shot at the 1st seed. James Sands has been better than Robinson. And no love for Dome.

Aren't Gil and Heber both foreign? Gil is from Spain and listed as an International on the MLS Roster page.
