Official Nycfc In The Media Thread 2015

Maybe I missed it, but when did this happen: "NYCFC admitted misleading fans by wrongly claiming Lampard had signed a contract with the MLS expansion team."
I have not seen this either - just the MC quotes. I get the internal PR structure but as season ticket holders we deserve to hear something from NYCFC. As with most of the members of the forum, I'm not pleased about this.

They start talking about the Lampard situation at 23 minutes. Good listen
This was brutal to listen to. I've been a big MiB fan for a while, but they're arguing that this is both 1) a clear sign that NYCFC is and always will be AAA baseball, and 2) a long term positive for NYCFC and MLS.

For this league to achieve its stated goal at being one of the world's finest leagues by 2020, that's an absolute falsehood, and is honestly dangerous thought.

Their show is about the Premier League, and with MLS moving to ESPN over the next few years, they have little allegiance to the goodwill of American soccer as a whole to begin with. That's fine, but I'll be taking their excitement over Kyle Beckerman and the USMNT a little less seriously the next time they start joking about a USA World Cup in 2022.

They're both clowns. I feel that Brits and EPL fans will never understand what the issues are here.
Davo is a huge Chelsea guy and loves FL. No way he would ever call him out. Spinning hard. "...long term, best thing thing possible for NYCFC".

Whatever. Don't agree.

What they said was just infuriating, and basically what most MCFC/EPL fans are saying. That we should have expected this after the way he performed. That no one knew he would perform that well. The thing is, his performance is irrelevant. They all told us he was signed that he would be here on Jan 1st. He should have been here on Jan 1. No matter how important MCFC is, or how much money they make, or anything. An agreement was made, even if it was just a lousy pre-contract commitment.

As far as I'm concerned, MCFC and Lampard are scumbags.

Would you have faith in your marriage if your wife ran off with Brad Pitt ;) on your wedding night? Would all be swell when she came back as long as she claimed that she's committed to you? Can you expect people to trust you in the future if you bail on your word as soon as a better offer appears.?

I was surprised and disappointed with this discussion. One of them has NYCFC season tickets and back in December they seemed more supportive and less dismissive even though they realistically expected the extension.

There's a lot that concerns me here. Does CFG want us to take NYCFC seriously? My guess is yes, as it will translate to some dollars and provide a continuous marketing reach for the group sponsors. Fine. We all get this as we understand the business of modern football. But then don't treat the club as a 2nd rate citizen because that will kill the deep support that I think a lot of us are willing to give.

If we don't make a big deal about this situation now (and I know a lot of you have been articulate and vocal) what's to stop them from thinking twice about doing it again and again in the future?

They've never really been MLS guys, and they've always been "EPL over errthang" anyway. I'm not surprised that they're arguing that because one of our players isn't a cast-off, it validates the entire league.

To them, MLS is a joke because they grew up with something different. That's fine, but I'm not going to them for MLS coverage anytime soon. They're a comedy podcast first, and analysts who you should listen to for intelligent sporting discussion second.

Just shows you how differently the 2 sides look at things.
They say "That we should have expected this after the way he performed. That no one knew he would perform that well."
I say we should get the $ from the increased jersey sales

As tired as I am of this, and ready to ignore it all, this article is notable for two things:
1. a seemingly completely false report that NYCFC is meeting with fans tomorrow; and
2. a possibly true report that MC had to disavow one of its 5 points from this morning. MC said in Point 3 of 5 that the FL contract with MC had no break clause. Rather, there was a short term contract to December 31 that was renewed. Then the PL came after MC because contracts shorter than 12 months are illegal under PL rules. And apparently MC has "privately conceded that the Lampard contract had been for the whole season."

Manchester City's reputation in tatters after admitting 'mistakes' and misleading fans over Frank Lampard's New York contract

I know. British papers. Unreliable, etc etc. Just reporting what the media are reporting.

Clearly not vetted properly by the internal red team.

Honestly, I don't believe very much right now (from CFG) as much of what I thought was true has been proven very false. They clearly don't want and don't feel the need to be transparent with any of this.

I'm pissed that we've been treated this way and that they (and many other people) are acting like it's not a big deal. Not the way to start a franchise that you want people to actually support.

Sure would be nice if we could get some titles, only announce signings we actually make and limit our bad press to quarterly reminders of massive human rights violations by our owner.

Life would be so much simpler.

“We made that a particular area that we wanted to inform leadership about, that we want our full team in place at the start of preseason at the end of January 2015,” Kreis said following a press conference announcing the Lampard signing at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Thursday. “We’re going to make every effort to make sure we have all of our players ready to go by then.”

Kreis said having star overseas players arrive before the MLS season starts was a point of emphasis of his, a philosophy he said the club also values.

“For me, players that enter in the middle of the season are typical fails,” Kreis said. “The chances for those players to really contribute meaningfully in a second half of a season in MLS are very, very small.”

Now Kreis is saying this is all good for the team, and that he supports Lampard coming late. As if it couldn't get any worse, now the coach is part of the fix.
