Meh. What the article seems to come down to is that NYCFC is its own thing because Pellegrini doesn't commandeer Kreis's practice. Which nobody ever thought would happen. It did showcase the upside elements of being part of CFG, which no one has ever doubted either, although it was helpful to read an account from a third-party that made it clear and didn't read like a press release.Must read article... definitely not a Chivas US or a Man City lite.
But they've lied to us about the downsides. They lied about wearing sky blue, and about signing Lampard, and they've never acknowledged or apologized for either one.
Now maybe that's all behind us. I hope so. But I also expect that if it doesn't happen again it will only be because they are not tempted to do so. But they didn't even need to lie about these things. If they admitted from the start that cross-marketing was a major priority, and that Lampard only had some sort of agreement in principle, they'd have basically the same fan base but none of us would be pissed off.
They're not the evil empire, and I have cautious hope for the team. But I trust CFG and NYCFC's front office as much as I trust an insurance company. And nothing in this article changes that.
