Mata has been hurt since the Copa. Maybe this is him finally back at full strength again. With Lamps and Chanot also both playing, it's nice to be at full strength and peaking right in time for the playoffs. Kudos to the coaching staff for getting us to this place in this position.
Goodfella and his mates all very welcoming, made our day even more enjoyable.

Vieira said Johansen essentially makes his job tougher and he will decide on the keeper for the next match based off: the opponent, how they look during training in the week and a talk with his goalkeeper coach.
Matarrita said Eirik had a great debut but said Josh also has his good moments. He said they set up well and managed to have good ball movement out of the back.
As for who should start next week he said that it was a tough decision that thankfully wasn't up to him to make.

Coach talk for Lurch is playing the next game.
PV has an easy out going with Lurch since he can say he's sticking with the hot hand. If he played Lurch a month ago it'd be a bigger deal to make the switch, but after last night's game a sleep deprived chimp would know who the starter should be.
For the people not going full in on Eirik yet, I think the biggest difference that you aren't focusing on is the distribution. Yes, Eirik may not have been in the right spot and made a slower decision on a cross or two. However, those are minor problems considering:
1.) Saunders is also suspect on a lot of crosses and
2.) Saunders' overall positioning blows
The major point here though, as I stated before, is the distribution. Whenever Saunders has the ball at his feet, it's like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off ending in a terrible pass to the opposition/ an under pressure or not open defender/ out of bounds. We all have a mini heart attack as we hold our breath waiting for the destruction to happen. With Lurch, he was confident on the ball and able to send passes not only to our CBs, but also chipping some to our outside backs and even sending one or two up to Harrison. Having a goalie that knows how to pass in a possession offense works wonders for our team and its setup. Communication was an issue I feel between him, Brillant, Iraola, and Chanot, but that can be worked on and improved with more time together.

My friend and I had a fun first half, especially when we were able to heckle Brad Stuver, the CC goalie. One of his defenders sent a terrible back pass that got past Stuver and ended up in a corner for us, which ended up in a goal kick after we missed the net. I screamed at him "Hey Brad, if you can't even stop a pass how are you going to stop a shot?!?" he actually turned around, made a face, and said "It was a shitty pass, what do you want me to do?" and shrugged too.
Never thought I'd actually get a response through the constant heckling consisting of "Pass it to that guy Brad, no not him," "No, your other left," (when he turned it over) "Nice pass, Brad."

I see the improvement in distribution but I don't value Eirik in total over Josh. I think they are even with different abilities. He's getting a bit too much credit, I think, on a day where he wasn't worked that much.
true but honestly, we wont know until we play the RB ( if we make it to conference finals) , since they are the only team that does it effectively.
I really liked Eirik in net. Whether he starts in the post season or not, I hope he's our starter next season. You guys see how he went around and Klopp-hugged every defender before kickoff?
But we know how Saunders distributed versus a well-orchestrated press and a non-existent press. Considering all other data points the answer is firmly with Lurch.
You start Eirik. For those saying we don't know how he will perform until he is pressed, that doesn't matter. The guy can play with two feet, his defenders are much more comfortable with his distribution and Eirik doesn't turn the ball over. 2-3 times per game, Saunders turns the ball over. His defenders aren't comfortable passing back to him. That's all that matters.
You mean when they went over to the fans and raised their hands up together. It's a pretty 'euro' thing and I noticed a lot of our domestic players seemed a bit lost. Villa kept going and looked over at the rest of the team who stopped after 2 times lol
